THE ICONOLOGY AND ICONOGRAPHY OF NIKE OKUNDAYE ART AND IYASE-ODOZI HISTORICAL BENIN ROYAL ART in Nigeria

This project aims to address the interest of the author on Visual arts in Nigeria, and as one of my PhD recommendations for further studies, it will interrogate and synthesise the iconology and iconography in Osogbo Adire and Edo Batik, as a method to explore historical royal art icons of African cultural heritage through the understanding of traditional knowledge system, meanwhile, this project will develop my artistic skills in exploring the methodology implied in my PhD dissertation and expanding the impact of motifs through working with Nike Okundaye of Osogbo art and Iyase-Odozi of the historical ancient looted Benin royal artefacts (1897) in Nigeria, based on the data collected from their activities between 2015-2021. Thus, will be crowned with the mounting of an exhibition, with works of art, installations, tie and dye fabrics/textile, video, visual and fashion shows propelled by these two artists, and particularly produced at the various organised workshop/training.
