As Young, Fresh N’ New comes to a close today, we want to thank everyone who took the time to visit, engage with the works, support the artists, and share in the conversations the exhibition made possible.

Over the past weeks, the exhibition brought together nine emerging artists whose practices explored intimacy, memory, selfhood, social conversations, and contemporary Black experience across painting, photography, textiles, and mixed media.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by, returned with friends, spent time with the works, shared thoughtful conversations, and became part of the exhibition’s journey.

Young, Fresh N’ New officially closes today at Wunika Mukan Gallery.

Until the next one.

Young, Fresh N’ New - Meet Lasisi Kehinde Charles.

Contemporary painter Lasisi Kehinde Charles creates vibrant figurative compositions that foreground youth, aspiration, intimacy, and community within everyday urban life.

Working primarily in acrylic on canvas, his practice is defined by bold planes of colour, expressive brushwork, and an attention to presence.

Drawing from street culture and lived experience, Lasisi explores identity, self-fashioning, leisure, and friendship as visual languages through which people shape and express themselves.

Through texture, intimacy, and unrefined brushwork, Lasisi reframes the dynamics of looking, asking who holds the gaze, and who gets to be fully seen.

His work is currently on view in Young, Fresh N’ New at Wunika Mukan Gallery, running through May 25, 2026.

Young, Fresh N’ New - Daniel Oruwhone.

Lagos-based visual artist Daniel Oruwhone (b. 1996) employs the naked form as a site of metaphor, interrogating vulnerability, masculinity, memory, and the construction of the self.

Oruwhone’s practice resists passive viewing, inviting audiences into intimate encounters with the body as a living archive, one that bears traces of personal histories alongside broader cultural narratives.

Through this approach, Oruwhone constructs a dialogue between presence and absence, visibility and concealment, asking: what does the exposed body reveal, and what does it protect?

His work is currently on view in Young, Fresh N’ New at Wunika Mukan Gallery, running through May 25, 2026.

Location: Wunika Mukan Gallery, 31b Bashorun R.I Okusanya Avenue, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos.

We join the continent in mourning the devastating loss of Maria McCloy , a true cultural pioneer whose work as a journalist, publicist, fashion designer, and DJ helped shape urban South African culture for more than two decades.

Maria was instrumental in welcoming us to South Africa, opening so many doors and connecting us to people and places we might never have known otherwise. Her encouragement and support were truly immeasurable, and we are profoundly grateful for everything she shared with us. To say we will miss her is the greatest understatement.

Our thoughts are especially with South Africa during this incredibly difficult time. May God give Maria’s family and loved ones strength through this unbelievable loss.

With deepest sympathy, WMG

Young, Fresh N’ New - Kamzy Nuel.

Ekuma Kamzy, known professionally as Kamzy Nuel, is a lens-based visual artist from Ebonyi State, currently based in Lagos. Although formally trained in power systems engineering, his artistic sensibility has been present since childhood.

Beginning his journey in 2020 as a smartphone photographer, Kamzy quickly distinguished himself through a deeply atmospheric and painterly visual language. In 2022, he received the Xiaomi Imagery Outstanding Prize in Portraiture, further affirming his evolving practice.

Working through the compositing of digital material and photography, Kamzy adapts techniques associated with classical painting traditions into contemporary image-making, creating photographs that feel suspended between mediums.

His practice asks an important question: how can photography borrow from the language of painting while remaining distinctly photographic?

Check out his work in Young, Fresh N’ New, now showing at Wunika Mukan Gallery through May 25, 2026.
