My time at the Multichoice Talent Factory will always be a highlight in my life. Not just for the training in film and television production but for the memories and the relationships that were birthed as a result.

This march, I showed up for the reunion eager to meet everyone and to introduce my clan to this beautiful thing I created, Wrap Party! Beyond the joy of watching everyone have fun playing Wrap Party!, we screened films from brilliant minds within the Alumni network. There were vulnerable moments, honest questions, and inspiring conversations.

I had the best time. I smiled until my cheeks hurt, laughed till my belly ached and ate till my jaws hurt. The MTF community is a very special one and the reunion reminded me of that.

Sincere gratitude to and everyone at the for making it possible for us to gather, unwind and connect. An absolute time was had and I honestly can’t stop thinking about it!

PS: have you ordered your own Wrap Party! deck?! Slide into ’s DM and place your order today!

The year was 2018. I had just gotten into film school. I was in the process of uprooting my life from Abuja to Lagos to study film; the thing I’ve been obsessed with for as long as I could remember.

On my way back from running an errand with my sister, we stumbled on book vendor who had an open air spread of books of different genres and prices. I bought everything film and “story” related. One of the finds in that book haul was “Filmmakers and Financing”. Little did I know that I was going to delve deeper into filmmaking to the point where I’ll attend a Sales and Distribution Residency years later.

Now, here I am, 8 years later, navigating the film industry and turning the pages of a book that I picked up on a random day afternoon.

There was no way I could have orchestrated this any better. God truly is in this story. 1% better every day. It will all make sense in the end.

Can you tell that I’m obsessed with Wrap Party!?

Wrap Party! will soon be available for purchase. When I say soon, I mean reaaaally soon. Everyone that has experienced the Wrap Party! effect has nothing but sweet reviews and I honestly can’t wait for everyone to get their hands on this beauty that is Wrap Party!

Can I be honest? This is all very surreal to me. You mean that people will soon click on a link, “add to cart” and actually get their hands on something I created! Something I created will become a part of people’s lives and memories in a tangible way. In a way they can touch, feel and experience. Wow. I’ve felt this way before but there is something different this time. Somebody pinch meeee.

Meanwhile, please follow . Announcement video loading….

I said I was going to do it and I did the damn thing!

Weeks leading to the , I almost opted out. A lot of people had opinions about the race and it was starting to get to me. “maybe I should just respect myself and run the 10km” these words kept playing in my head but I kept showing up for my training sessions. There were days I would sleep and dream of race day, days I would not be able to sleep for more than two hours because I couldn’t stop thinking about race day. At some point, I laid everything at the foot of the cross and surrendered. Anything that would going to happen would happen and it will be for my good.

The night before the race, I slept like a baby! 12am on race day, it began to rain and I didn’t panic. I told myself “under the sun or in the rain, you must finish this thing!”. It ended up being the perfect weather for my first marathon! Cloudy skies all through. No rain beyond 2kms or so and no sunshine until the day ended! That was the sign that God had gone ahead of me! When I say I am a Child of Grace, this is what I mean!!!

The race was not perfect, not by a long shot. I struggled more than I had ever done! It was even more brutal because I had the option to quit and nothing would have happened. I was not being coerced. I was enduring the pain out of sheer free will. Regardless of how my first marathon went, it will forever go down in history as one of the hardest things I have ever done!

I am so proud of myself for doing the work, for showing up when things were hard, especially then, and for doing what I said I would do! Beyond that, I’m so grateful to have a village that wouldn’t let me quit! From the calls to the voice notes to the messages, the constant check-ins, the prayers, advices, to cheering for me on the route, and even waiting for me at the finish line!! My goodness!! I felt the love and it was so overwhelming!!!

42.40kms… done! Officially a marathoner! Thank you Jesus!

PS: a full marathon is 42.195kms. The extra 0.205kms is for good measure. lol

Third book of the year… Done

Surfacing was very raw and deeply intimate. I struggled with reading it but I couldn’t deny the fact that it was very well written and every emotion, every inch of the story world was described so vividly that you’d almost feel like you’re beside the character at each point.

Margret Atwood will always be a favorite of mine because of The Handmaid’s Tale but Surfacing would have to be my least favorite Atwood book so far.

Tell me, have you read Surgacing? What do you think? Also, what are you currently reading? Is it any good?

January came with a lot of beautiful moments and this was one of them.

Have I said a thing and not do it?!
Outside of the goals and plans we had for Iwa Ji at , I told myself that I wanted Iwa Ji to have a one year festival circuit and then end up on a streaming platform. I didn’t know how it was going to happen but I had that goal in mind.
Before long, a path started to open up. I reached out to a couple of distributors. I was met with a lot of silence, some “documentaries are not easy to sell” and one “Have you considered changing the name? That might make it easier”. Remember that path that started to open up, I’m sure you know what started to happen at this point.
Then I finished my Sales and Distribution Residency and decided to use my own film as a proof of concept. “You say you’re a Film Sales Executive, what deal have you been able to secure for a film?”. If not for anything, I wanted to prove that it was possible to secure a deal for a documentary. That there are pathways for films outside of the obvious. Most importantly, I wanted to prove to myself that I could do it.
Remember the one year goal I had, one year was fast approaching and nothing was forthcoming. Not only did I not give up, I added another goal to it. Now, I had a fast approaching deadline with two goals in mind.
I kept at it. Research, reach out, refresh email, repeat. One year passed and nothing happened.
My faith began to wane but I still showed up. Some days, it would just be research, other days it would be to reach out, most days, it would just be to refresh email.
In the midst of all of this, I kept hearing “Have I said a thing and not do it.”. I had to rest in this promise, and here we are! Ladies and gentlemen, Iwa Ji joins the lineup of amazing documentaries from Sundance, Oscars, IDFA, Tribeca, Locarno and many more on GuideDoc!
To think that this is just the beginning.

Second book of the year… Done ✅

I never doubted ’s recommendation and reading “A Kind of Madness” just solidified my belief. This was such a beautiful read! Ten different, human, relatable stories with one underlying theme. There was something innocent and interesting about the fact that majority of the stories were from the POV of children/teens.

I can’t pick a favorite from the list. Shadow made me think of my nephew. I found Animals very funny. My heart went out to Alphonso in The Harvest. I wanted to give Chekwube a big slap in Milk and Oil. I didn’t attend a boarding school but reading A Girl Who Lied made me remember all the stories my sister would share with me every time she returned home from boarding school. Burning reminded me of my secondary school days, living with my mother. My mother was nothing like Adanna’s mother and my story was nothing like Adanna’s but for some reason, reading it took me back to the times we shared, just the two of us, in a small apartment in the big city.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this and I highly recommend. Kudos to the brilliant author, Uche Okonkwo and the amazing guys at

Wrap Party! is one idea that has been stuck in my head for so long. Every attempt to discard it failed and I reluctantly started developing it. I remember the first day I saw this logo, I grinned like a 5 year old that got her dream toy as a birthday gift.

The process of reveling this idea has tested me in so many ways. But for me to make this post, it means that I passed every test and learned every lesson.

The sample box of my first card game just arrived today and I still can’t process how I feel. Well, maybe I can. I’m equal parts excited and terrified to share this fun game with you.

In the meantime, it will mean the world to me if you can follow , share, engage and turn on your post notifications.

Oh, before I forget, can you guess what the Wrap Party! game is all about? I’m itching to reveal it but I want to hear your raw and unfiltered thoughts.

For someone who grew up dissociated from her culture, IWA JI is a return home. Not in the metaphorical sense. This story took me back to my home town. I was privileged to sit at the feet of elders and soak up stories from a century ago.
People dread getting old but I see it as a gift. A greater gift is hearing those who have gone before me share lived experiences. Who are we without our culture and what is our culture without our stories?
IWA JI is a celebration of the Igbo Culture
IWA JI is a preservation of our history
IWA JI is ours
IWA JI is going to be screening in Ibadan at the Ibadan Indie film Awards and in Enugu at the Enugu International Film Festival
Swipe for more details and plan to attend in any of the cities closest to you.
