🚨 UNIBEN Bloodbath: 200-Level Student & Girlfriend Gunned Down Over Alleged ₦90 Million Yahoo Deal – Campus Turns War Zone
In a chilling incident that has left the University of Benin (UNIBEN) community in mourning and outrage, a 200-level Political Science student was executed in cold blood right at the main gate of the institution on Sunday evening, just after completing his semester examinations.
Alexander Omogiate was shot multiple times at close range inside his JLK Mercedes Benz by masked gunmen. He didn’t stand a chance.
The attack didn’t stop there. Stray bullets hit three other occupants in the car — Onwuke Blessed, Chinenye Christian Mbagwu, and Dorothy Ubah. All were rushed to the University Teaching Hospital with grave injuries. Tragically, Dorothy Ubah succumbed to her wounds on Monday.
But the horror continued. Hours later, Alexander’s girlfriend was also killed in a separate attack along the Airport Road axis by the same suspected assailants. Another unidentified person was reportedly killed at the Uselu axis.
This wasn’t random violence. Multiple sources point to a deadly dispute over an alleged ₦90 million internet fraud (Yahoo) deal.
How It All Unfolded
According to an anonymous source who spoke to Silverbird Rhythm 93.7 FM, trouble started two weeks earlier when one of the suspected assailants tracked Omogiate to class demanding his share of the millions. The deceased reportedly promised to settle them.
He later allegedly reneged on the agreement. Tensions boiled over on campus, leading to machete attacks and injuries among students. The final confrontation happened on the last day of exams.
Eyewitness accounts describe masked men trailing Omogiate from class to the main gate, opening fire on his car before speeding off, shooting into the air to disperse bystanders. Pure execution-style.
Anti-Cult Chairman Resigns, Accuses VC of Cover-Up
In a shocking twist, the Chairman of UNIBEN’s Anti-Cult Committee, Venerable Egbenusi, has resigned. In his statement, he accused the Vice Chancellor of threatening him to delete video evidence of cult-related activities — including a cutlass chase — just hours before the shooting.
Egbenusi claims he sent clips to the VC before and after the killing, only to be ordered to delete them within five minutes or face eviction from the Chapel Vicarage. He refused, calling it “an assault on the office of the University Chaplain.”
UNIBEN management and the Edo State Police Command are yet to issue official statements as investigations continue.
The Bigger Picture
This tragedy shines a disturbing light on the dark underbelly of some Nigerian campuses: the dangerous mix of internet fraud, cultism, entitlement, and instant justice. Students allegedly swimming in millions from shady deals, then turning on each other with guns and machetes when shares aren’t delivered.
A promising young man, his girlfriend, and an innocent student are now dead — all because of greed and betrayal.
Parents are scared. Students are terrified. The question on everyone’s lips: How did it get this bad?
Justice Must Prevail
The Edo State Police Command needs to treat this as a priority. No cover-ups. No sweeping under the carpet. The masked killers must be identified and brought to justice — whether they are students, cultists, or hired assassins.
UNIBEN authorities also owe the community transparent answers regarding the alleged threat to delete evidence.
May the souls of Alexander Omogiate, Dorothy Ubah, and the others rest in peace.
