Expo Lagos Creators Highlight

Today we’re looking into .

This beautiful artist , interrogates the African identity in all its mystical, flamboyant and remarkable glory, through her paintings.
We spoke to her about the art that she exhibited and she said;

“I found inspiration for the “Hair Paintings Collection 1” in many places. The paintings have many layers. Andy Warhol’s “Monroe” inspired the art style of “Find the Imposter”. That painting reflects my memory of having designated hairstyles in school. The imposter was the one who seemed to wear the uniform, but was not connected to the herd.
The other two paintings are a bit more personal. I have decided to leave them open to interpretation for now.”

Expo Lagos Creators Highlight
Today we’re looking into .
Kosi Okafor was born in Lagos state. He obtained a degree in Geography at University of Lagos and has been painting since he was 7. He started painting digitally two years ago and it has grown to be his preferred art medium.

At Expo Lagos he he exhibited a few of his works and here is how he described what inspired him and what they actually mean.
for “undead soldier”
the inspiration/meaning behind this is the soldier depicting oppression and how he rises from the ashes to fight and take what is his.
for “Goldie”
this shows the love of wealth in youth and showing it off even in its smallest details.
for “troubled waters”
this shows or teaches how facing fears or defeats in life but never letting it defeats oneself. the hands depicts the trouble and the water is life
for “dark magic”
the mystery of the man, the light in his eyes and the power in his hands. magic is something brewed and display that isn’t easily fathomable and accessible to human reason. this shows shows great wisdom and folly.
