Through reconstructed archival paintings, Gbebire documents the women of Isalẹ̀ Èkó, whose labour sustains Yoruba fashion and celebratory culture. By incorporating inscriptions, fading textures, and signs of decay, her works preserve the untold stories of traders who have shaped owàmbẹ̀ culture, while acknowledging the passage of time and the disappearance of those who came before.

Tumininu Gbebire is a visual artist whose practice explores memory, disappearance, and the fragile transmission of stories across generations. Drawing inspiration from the carte-de-visite era, she treats each canvas as an archival object shaped by erasure, tearing, discoloration, fading, and natural deterioration, incorporating dates and handwritten text to preserve nostalgia as it ages.

The exhibition opens on Saturday, January 10th, from 2–6pm at Rele, Lagos.
