There is a special kind of joy that comes with wearing something new as a child. It is not just about the clothes it is the excitement, the confidence, and the feeling of being seen.

Coat of Many Colours is a reflection on childhood and the simple happiness that can come from having something new to wear. Growing up in Nigeria, especially in families with limited means, new clothes are not something that happen every day. For many children, Christmas becomes that special time of the year when a new outfit is bought, carefully kept, and finally worn with pride.

I remember how putting on new clothes could completely change the way a child felt. You stand differently, walk with confidence, and cannot wait for people to notice. The colourful dress in this painting represents that excitement the innocence of a child who does not need much to feel happy.

Beyond the Smile

The smile becomes a visual distraction. It is so captivating that many viewers overlook the impossible landscape and the unfinished figure. Through this work, I question how often we allow beauty, happiness, or outward appearances to distract us from noticing the inconsistencies, struggles, and hidden realities that exist beneath the surface.

Innocence is a continuation of my Childhood Series, exploring the beauty of growing up through moments of confidence, playfulness, and self-expression. In a world that often teaches us to hide who we are,
children remind us what it means to simply exist as our authentic selves.

This painting celebrates that fearless spirit the joy of being seen, the confidence of being yourself, and the quiet strength found in innocence.
Perhaps as we grow older, we don't lose our innocence all at once; we slowly forget the freedom it gave us.
