CHURCH MUSIC .....π
It is glaring enough that every local church wants that perfect, top notched, professional touch on their musical team. Argueably because of its imperativeness in ministerial growth and sustainance.Apart from the word, people come to church to enjoy good music,we all know bad musical out put is a major turn off for church goers.
As a matter of fact, good music is like a placeholder on people's souls when placed in a juxtaposition with the word within and outside the confines of religion.
This is because music enraptures the soul,it is a soul charmer.Needless to ask the question why those who practice spiritism or shamanism use music as a tool for communing with spirits. Hence the saying "Music ,a food for the soul".
Wailfully, Most church leaders seldom Priotize the effectiveness of this department with a plethora of excuses, that has posed a detrimental outlook of a ROLLERCOASTER on the musical team (Today they're up,Tomorrow they're down). And in a state as this, loosing musicians on a consistent level will be persistent.Even if they're on your payroll.
The claims that is commonplace is that church musicians are now church prostituting (jumping from one church to another, seeking a better pay) like monkeys swinging from tree to tree in search of fruits.
As this is not entirely true, there are good musicians in church who love the lord, love to serve a ministry but if their musical gratification aren't met, they feel like aliens, they feel out of place, its like wearing a shoe smaller than your feet.
Of course you know that hurts and you can't comfortably walk in those shoes.
And in such excruciating situation, the musician is left with two options
1- walk in the shoes and bear the pain (consequences) or
2-Take off the shoes and be free ( leave for a better place )
As a church leader ,if you're tired of loosing musicians in your church, here's a few things you need to know.
INVEST in that department; Music itself is quite expensive. Get good musical instruments.Every musician wants to enjoy their play whether they are on your payroll or not. Its the first check on their bucket list. A good musician looks out for their musical instrument first before they even consider the pay. That's to let you know its not just about the pay,
Seek to always improve the department in conjunction with the musical team leaders.Because if the musicians out grow your standard, they'll soon leave.its inevitable.
I was once in a church where the pastor wanted more from the entire music team but wasn't willing to provide the requisite materials. Each time the musical leader goes to the church leaders with a budget to enhance the team, they will always tell them no money, yet there was so much pressure on the team to come out good with no support....Not long musicians started leaving one at a time.
Its not a sin to pay your musicians.some of them have familes to cater for.if they desire to be on your payroll then you should if you have the means to.
But if there is any financial constrain to this agreement then y'all can reach an agreement .talk it out Quit a good number of musicians are humane too..
Also there's this wrong impression church leaders throw at instrumentalists. Because certain musicians are on your payroll, you treat them as staffs and not members. Unpronounced, this has an inimical psychological effect on how they relate with the ministry.
Instead of them to integrate into the system and do more than was bargained for, they'll rather play the strictly business policy due to the narrative you've created around them.
Dear Church Leaders,Treat your musicians with love and respect, see them as part of the pack and i promise you, they'll do more than just play instruments and go ....
