Traditional Turbaning Stopped: Yandang Youth Blame Lau Chairman for Disruption

~ Appeal to Gov. Agbu Kefas to Intervene and Address Alleged Marginalization and Cultural Suppression

Formal Appeal to the Governor of Taraba State: From the Yandang Youth Development Congress (YYDC)

We are writing to bring to the attention of the Governor of Taraba State, Dr. Agbu Kefas, our profound concerns as community representatives, regarding the humiliation inflicted upon our community by certain politicians who collaborated to undermine the Sanwi Chiefdom and Yandang Community.

Your Excellency, the Yandang Youth Development Congress (YYDC) has publicly accused Hon. Nigeria Jatau, Executive Chairman of Lau Local Government Area, of deliberately undermining the Sanwi Chiefdom and frustrating community development initiatives in Yandang land, purportedly serving the interests of greedy politicians.

The group expressed deep concern over the indefinite postponement of a highly anticipated traditional turbaning ceremony organized by the Sanwi Chiefdom under the leadership of His Royal Highness, Pastor Dr. Haniel Hinlewheni Banti.

The event, which was scheduled for Saturday, July 26, 2025, aimed to honour illustrious sons , daughters and distinguished personalities who are friends of the Chiefdom and have contributed greatly to the progress of the community, but was abruptly stopped following a letter signed by Hamman Adama Adamu on behalf of Hon. Jatau on July 25, 2025—less than 24 hours to the event.

This sudden cancellation not only disrupted months of planning but also caused significant financial losses to the community and individuals involved.

The YYDC further accused Hon. Jatau of conspiring with his paymasters to issue the letter, falsely claiming that the directive originated from His Excellency Dr. Agbu Kefas through the Bureau for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, with the intention of frustrating the planned turbaning ceremony.

We are accusing him of hypocrisy and double standards, because he had recently accepted a traditional title — as Danmadamin Lau — from the Chief of Lau, HRH Sadiq Damburam, on March 30, 2025. This act, contradicts his justification for stopping the Sanwi turbaning, which he claims was based on a directive from the Governor of Taraba State, that Bureau for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs has banned Traditional and Chieftaincy titles in all the chiefdoms in Lau LGA, dated February 19, 2025, but the circular was specifically against the installation of Districts and Village heads, not traditional and Chieftaincy titles.

“If the letter applies to Sanwi, why did it not apply to order Chiefdoms and his own turbaning?” the group queried.

The Congress also accused the Chairman of marginalizing Yandang youths in his administration and frustrating all community-led projects. One such project includes the effort by residents of Didango Rhobi to collaborate with the Nigeria Police to establish a police outpost, which was allegedly blocked by the Chairman.

The YYDC emphasized the historical loyalty and support of the Yandang people to the PDP and all Taraba State Governors since 1999, including their strong participation in the 2023 general elections.

*Appeal to the Governor*

In light of these grievances, the Yandang Youth Development Congress is appealing to His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Taraba State, to intervene and address the perceived injustice.

“We urge our members to remain calm and law-abiding. No one should take the law into their own hands,” the statement concluded.
“We sincerely apologize to the organizers and the dignitaries who were to be honored. Your efforts and commitment to the community are deeply appreciated.”

PRESS BRIEFING BY YANDANG YOUTH DEVELOPMENT CONGRESS (YYDC) ON THE BETRAYAL OF YANDANG YOUTHS BY PDP TREASURER, TARABA S...

PRESS BRIEFING BY YANDANG YOUTH DEVELOPMENT CONGRESS (YYDC) ON THE BETRAYAL OF YANDANG YOUTHS BY PDP TREASURER, TARABA STATE HON. AHMADU DANLADI SOKE AND THE CALL FOR HIS REMOVAL

The Yandang Youths wish to express their deep disappointment with the conduct of Hon. Danladi Ahmadu, also known as Soke, who has continually used his political office to work against the interests of our people. Despite the unwavering loyalty the Yandang people have consistently shown to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Ahmadu has chosen a path of division, undermining both the progress of our community and the unity of the party.

For years, the Yandang people have been a reliable backbone of the PDP’s success in Taraba State, voting them masse and supporting the party's agenda. However, it has become increasingly clear that Hon. Ahmadu no longer shares in our vision for collective progress. His opposition to the candidacy of Governor Agbu Kefas during the 2023 general elections was not only a betrayal of the PDP’s democratic process but also a blatant rejection of the hopes and aspirations of the Yandang community.

Adding insult to injury, Hon. Ahmadu, who hails from Donadda Ward, a predominantly Yandang area, has failed to secure support for the PDP in his own backyard. The losses suffered by the PDP in both the governorship and senate elections within his ward are a clear reflection of his inability to lead or rally the people he claims to represent. It is evident that his interests lie elsewhere, and not with the well-being of the Yandang people.

Furthermore, Hon. Ahmadu’s actions stand in direct opposition to the efforts of Governor Agbu Kefas, who has worked tirelessly to heal divisions within the PDP and foster unity across all regions and ethnic groups in Taraba State. While the governor has dedicated himself to reconciling differences within the party, Hon. Ahmadu has sought to deepen these divides, exploiting ethnic tensions and creating a rift between the Yandang people and the wider political landscape.

His action is not just a gross misconduct, but an outright abuse of power. It reeks of political desperation, showing Hon. Soke Danladi Ahmadu's willingness to ruin the reputation of anyone standing in his way. His misuse of his position to settle personal scores sets a dangerous precedent to the Yandang Youths in Taraba State. His actions are unconstitutional, uncivilized, and a direct assault on democratic principles. He has not only undermined the PDP’s constitution but has also flagrantly violated the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria by targeting an individual Hon. Dallas Edward for personal reasons that have no connection to the PDP or the PDP 100% Loyal Group. Compelling the PDP Loyal group to issue him suspension letter. Also, in a leaked suspension letter that was withheld by Hon. Soke Danladi from PDP Chairman Donnada Ward, Lau LGA Mr. Ayuba Nasamu. The Yandang Youth Development Congress (YYDC) has gotten it through the backdoor that Hon Danladi Soke directed the Ward Chairman of Donnada Ward to issue yet another suspension letter to Hon. Dallas Edward Gurabi, for his personal interest this time attempting to remove him from the PDP at the ward level. This blatant abuse of power will not be tolerated by the Yandang Youths.

It is important to set the record straight: Hon. Ahmadu is not a jenjo man. He is Gomu by tribe, from Lau, and his recent attempts to attach himself politically to the noble Jenjo people are nothing more than a strategy for personal gain. The Jenjo community, which has always been a beacon of peace and cooperation, enjoys a long-standing and harmonious relationship with the Yandang people. Hon. Ahmadu’s attempts to distort this relationship for his own ends are not only false but also dangerous to the unity we have built over the years.

In light of these concerns, we, the Yandang Youths, are calling for the immediate removal of Hon. Danladi Ahmadu from any position of influence within the PDP. His actions are a threat to the unity of the party and the progress of Taraba State. We cannot stand by while someone in his position continues to act in ways that harm both our community and the PDP as a whole.

We believe that the PDP is a party that stands for unity, development, and the shared progress of all people, regardless of ethnicity or background. Hon. Ahmadu’s conduct is in stark contrast to these values, and for the sake of party unity and the future of our great state, his removal is both necessary and urgent.

The Yandang Youths remain committed to supporting Governor Agbu Kefas and the PDP’s vision for a stronger, more united Taraba State. We refuse to allow the selfish actions of a few to derail the tremendous progress we have made. Our loyalty to the PDP is unwavering, and we will continue to stand for what is right.

Let us remain focused on the task ahead, united in our resolve to build a better future for all.
