Day 1 of Scent, Spice & Story opened with scent, memory, and creativity.
Led by Genny Ray resident at New Culture Studios, this candle making workshop welcomed participants into a sensory dialogue with Nigeria’s rich culinary heritage.

Together, we explored how spices evoke memory and place, crafting our own spice infused candles rooted in personal and cultural narratives. Participants learned the essentials of candle-making: blending scents, infusing spices, and turning fragrance into storytelling.

This workshop marks another milestone in our mission to nurture meaningful, locally inspired art-making.

We wrapped up Beading Our Stories with something truly special our participants became teachers, passing on everything they learned to a group of children. It was a full circle moment rooted in joy, knowledge-sharing, and community.

From learning to leading, they showed us that creativity multiplies when it’s shared. The next generation of storytellers is already watching, listening, and learning and thanks to this workshop, they’ve now begun to create.

Here’s to art that transcends age, and stories that never stop unfolding.

Day 4 | Beads as Medium, Message, and Material
It was all about context and creative application. Amber Sijuwade, curator of the , introduced participants to contemporary artists who use beads as vessels for memory, history, and cultural identity. Her session expanded how we think about beading as both an artistic medium and a storytelling tool.

Later, , a multidisciplinary artist, led a hands-on session on how to incorporate beads into visual art. Through texture, symbolism, and material layering, participants explored new dimensions in their artistic practices.

Beading Our Stories | Day 3
The threads are weaving beautifully.

Day 3 was led by the remarkable founder of Africa’s first Waste Museum. Her mantra, “nothing is waste,” guided the session as participants learned how to create beads from everyday discarded materials. She championed sustainability not as an aesthetic, but as a lifestyle, reminding us that transformation is possible in both art and life.
