🔥 The Criminal Shadow 👹
Episode 1

Uncle Debo and I were flabbergasted and scared after heard that Jaguar's boys had burnt his house, his girlfriend that locked herself inside and his second car to ashes. And they had even harmed my younger sister Ibukun who tried to comfort them. Unknown tough stranger called and told him. The voice of the caller was really thick. It almost spoiled the speaker of the phone. We could hear the moaning of Ibukun in background. She was shouting " My eyes! My eyes!!" As if they were removing her eyes. The caller told Uncle Debo to show up before noon if he did want them to kill Ibukun and if they find him themselves they will not hesitate to kill him.
Jaguar was the number one hired killer in Kolobo City. He had collections with big guns in the city. Jaguar was the one killed my father. Police arrested him, and the next week he was released and government told us to keep our mouths shut. The reason why he killed my father was still unknown to me. He had different boys at different places. Hearing Jaguar's name is deathward. His presence meant death. Uncle Debo's hands were shaking on sterling to hear this. He was sweating profusely.
Uncle Debo asked me that morning to parked all our belongings into boot and I did so. He said that we are going to Enugu to go and stay with one of his friends. "For what?" I kept asking him to tell me the reason but he said nothing. We were heading to Ibukun's hostel to go and carry her and travel together, when we heard that she was already harmed by Jaguar's boys. I lost for word, my eyes filled with tears. What was between Uncle Debo and Jaguar? Jaguar? Jaguar? I was still doubting my ears.
"Horla, don't be scared..." He cleared his throat and faced me
"At this stage.. I don't think I need to hide anything for you anymore" Uncle Debo stammered. Fear shone in his eyes and asking me not to be afraid. He told me that he was one of Jaguar's boys, not ordinary boy, he was Jaguar's PA. My eyes widely opened, my heart almost came out of my mouth.
"What? So... you are a criminal. So, you knew about the death of my father." I got off from his car angrily. I started picking stones on ground and stoning the car. "You killed my poor father for what? With all he did for you..My sister is also in danger.. whether she is dead or not, I don't know.." I kept shouting on him expecting someone to interfere but that place was quite quiet not a goat passed by. I later fell on the ground tiredly, crying loudly like a baby that needed breastfeed. Uncle Debo moved closer to me and squated before me. He asked me to keep my mouth shut.
"Both of us were also in danger, in a serious trouble, your stupid crying is not the next line of action, it is only make situation worse. Jaguar's boys might have been looking for us and if they caught us here, we are dead" He said fast and boldly. My eyes opened fearfully. I was scared to hear this. At this same time I didn't want to have anything with this criminal who called himself my uncle moreover I was not the one they were looking for.
"Hired killers know themselves. I go nowhere with you" I said
"They know you more than Ibukun" he said hardly, he rose up from the squatting and added " You better stand up and let's us leave here now" He shouted. He was tired of exchanging words with me at the same place.
I stood up and faced him boldly "Are you trying to go and kill me too? My father is not enough for you? Crimi..." I wasn't finished my word when I received a thunderous slap on my cheek
He slapped me angrily "Don't call me that. I didn't know anything about it!" He yelled at me.
" I am not going anywhere except you tell me where you are taking me to. And why you people killed my father" I shouted adamantly.
"Stop yelling at me" he shouted
" I don't care" I yelled back. A dead silence ensued. Uncle Debo was just looking at me at this time, he didn't know what to do. Few minutes later he signed and put his hand on my shoulder.
"Immediately I knew that Jaguar was the one killed my brother. I decided to revenge and I summited my CV to Jaguar's house as a house keeper. And he employed me as his PA due to my qualifications." He said coolly.
"Do you think I can kill my only brother? The exactly brother who sent me to school?" Tears filled his eyes, I felt like believing him, he continued. " I couldn't revenge! Jaguar is an elephant and I am just like an ant. Jaguar has weapons, boys, and spiritual powers and I have nothing."
"Why he wanted to kill you? He knew that you wanted to revenge?" I asked
"I impreg..no..no.." He stopped. I knew that he tried to hide something. Uncle Debo was a womanizer. He loved woman more than food. Maybe he had impregnated one female worker in Jaguar's compound, what if it was Jaguar's daughter? I didn't want to worry about it since he didn't complete the sentence. He dripped into the cross bag on his shoulder and brought out a gold
"I stole this gold from him. It worth million of dollars" I was shocked.
" I thought stealing this gold is the best way for me to revenge but I am scared" he added.
I didn't know what to say. But I felt like liking his idea of stealing the gold at least we will sell it and start a better life. But what about Ibukun? How are we going to get her back? Jaguar had boys everywhere. Are we not in trouble?
Suddenly we heard the sounds of cars approaching us. We looked at the back and surprised to see Jaguar's boys filled four buses with weapons in their hands.

Chapter One

“My Dad! Why didn’t you let me die before you passed away? Mum! Why did you just depart from me on this abject way? Why? Don’t you know that you’re my destined pathfinders? You led me to the mid-way point to the life gate, which now looks like a no-go-area, and you vamoosed just like that. You left me without a simple word of “farewell”, both of you left me behind in the disastrous tribulations. You disappeared like puffs of to***co smoke. You forsook me in the distressed morass of this wicked world. Why? Did I offend you?”
Kunle was the one asking questions rhetorically and contemplating the unexpected death of his late parents mournfully and miserably. He sat on a desk which was beside an open window at the back of one classroom of few students who were making a noise. The classroom was quite noisy. The students in the classroom were seriously discussing the awful oppression of school fees in the school as well as Mr. Paiko, the vice principal’s inhumane conduct towards bankrupt students. Some students were cheering up, because their parents had paid their school fees, “Nothing to worry about”. On the other hand, some were unhappy because of theirs which had not been paid. All bankrupt students kept expecting to hear the sound of an emergency bell, for gathering in assembly ground and to be sent home as usual every Monday morning. Kunle at where he was, he just held incommunicado. He just placed his hands against the temples with a woebegone face, looked out through the window absent mindedly, his eyes gleamed like live embers of portable clayey stove, irresistible tears streamed down his cheeks, flowing from the tear dust and landing into the corners of his mouth with a salty taste. A painful grief and desolation gripped and ruled his heart unpleasantly, staring like a pilferer, who was caught in a farm of sugarcane. None of his classmates knew what’s wrong with him, but he alone knew where the shoes pinching himself
