EPISODE 5: THE MAN WHO STOLE DEATH

The room was pitch black.

Amara was shaking beside Jide, her tears still dropping. Jide stood still, fists clenched, breathing hard.

That voice…

He knew it.

The voice that used to call him “champion.”

The voice that disappeared the day his father supposedly died.

Now it was back.

But it didn’t sound like love.

It sounded like hunger.

The voice spoke again, slow and calm: “You’ve grown, Jide.”

Jide swallowed. “Where are you?!”

The voice chuckled. “Right here… right in front of you.”

Then the light came on.

Not bright, just dim.

And Jide saw him.

Standing at the corner of the room.

A man in a black coat.

Older.

Sharper.

Colder.

But it was him.

Jide’s father.

Jide’s heart nearly stopped.

“No… this can’t be real,” he whispered.

The man stepped forward slowly. His eyes glowed faintly like fire.

Jide’s voice cracked. “Dad…?”

The man smiled. “I prefer you call me… Master Adebayo now.”

Amara stood up shaking. “You killed my father!”

Master Adebayo looked at her like she was nothing. “That pastor was never your father. He was only a guardian… a weak one.”

Amara screamed, “LIAR!”

Master Adebayo raised his hand slightly.

Suddenly, Amara flew across the room like an invisible force slapped her.

BAM!

She hit the wall and fell.

Jide shouted, “STOP!”

Master Adebayo looked at him calmly. “Don’t shout at me, son.”

Jide’s voice trembled. “Why are you doing this? Where have you been? Everyone said you died!”

Master Adebayo laughed. “I did die.”

Jide froze.

Master Adebayo continued, “I died the day I touched that notebook. I died the day I chose power over family.”

Jide whispered, “Power?”

Master Adebayo stepped closer. “That notebook is older than this city. It was written by a man who discovered how to trap souls. Whoever owns it can escape death.”

Jide’s eyes widened. “So you sacrificed Kola… for your life?”

Master Adebayo’s smile faded slightly. “Kola was only the beginning.”

Jide felt sick.

EPISODE 4: THE MARK ON HIS PALM

Jide and Amara didn’t stop running until they reached the main road. Their chests rose and fell like they had just escaped death. The air felt colder than normal, and even the streetlights looked dim, like they were afraid to shine.

Amara bent down, hands on her knees. “What… what was that?” she whispered. “Jide… what is happening to us?”

Jide didn’t answer. His eyes were fixed on his palm. The symbol… the same symbol from the notebook. The eye inside a triangle. It was burned into his skin like a tattoo, glowing faintly as if it was alive.

He rubbed it hard, hoping it would disappear, but it didn’t fade. Instead, it started burning like hot iron.

“Aah!” Jide hissed, shaking his hand.

Amara’s eyes widened. “What’s wrong?”

Jide showed her his palm.

Amara stepped back immediately. “No… no, no. That symbol… I’ve seen it before.”

Jide froze. “You’ve seen it where?”

Amara hesitated, then whispered, “In my father’s room.”

Jide’s heart skipped. “Your father?”

Amara nodded. “My dad has a locked box under his bed. I once opened it when he wasn’t home. Inside were old papers, strange drawings… and that same symbol. He caught me and beat me that day. He said if I ever touched those things again, I would bring death into our home.”

Jide swallowed hard. “But your father is a pastor.”

Amara gave a bitter laugh. “That’s what everyone thinks.”

A sudden silence fell between them.

Then Jide heard it… a faint sound, like pages flipping. But there was no notebook. He looked around, confused.

Then he felt it.

A cold breath behind his ear.

And a whisper, clear and chilling: “YOU CAN’T THROW ME AWAY.”

Jide turned sharply. Nobody was there.

His heartbeat exploded.

He grabbed Amara’s hand. “We need to go to your house.”

Amara shook her head quickly. “No. My father will kill me if he sees you with that mark.”

Jide tightened his grip. “We don’t have a choice.”

They ran.

When they got to Amara’s compound, the gate was open.
