For a while now, I've been troubled by the growing trend of our women abandoning our rich African heritage in favor of Western values, even in marriage. It pains me to see our time-honored traditions slowly fading away. I've always believed that taking the easy route doesn't necessarily mean it's the best option. The adoption of Western culture has led to a alarming rise in divorces, single mothers, and women who are no longer suitable for marriage. Relationships have become transactional, lacking the love and respect that once defined our unions. Women are now leaving their marriages once they've achieved their goals, without regard for the sanctity of the institution. My dear ladies, I urge you to wake up and learn from our mothers and grandmothers who embodied the true spirit of African womanhood! I'm not suggesting we reject all aspects of Western culture, but we must be discerning and mindful of what we embrace. Let us also share our own values with the West, that they may learn from us as well. If we continue down this path, I fear that in a decade, our situation will be even more dire. Unfortunately, this trend is already wreaking havoc in Nigeria and spreading to other parts of Africa. May God bless Nigeria and the world, but we have a lot of work to do to preserve our cultural heritage.
