GOV ENO HOLDS MAIDEN GOVT HOUSE MEDIA BRIEFING, HARPS ON CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, says he is opened to constructive criticisms that would help his administration in the development of the State.

Governor Eno stated this at the maiden edition of Government House Press Briefing, coordinated by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Ekerete Udoh.

Describing Journalists as the hope of the masses, he implored them to churn out good reportage based on their convictions and in line with the ethics of their profession, assuring on his readiness to work with the media to ensure that the people are kept abreast with the workings of his administration.

He urged the press team to live up to its vested responsibility of feeding the media community being the fourth estate of the realm, and by extension the public with programmes and activities of his government.

"We must come together to build our state, than come out to destroy what we are trying to do.

“One of the things I have always said to my Chief Press Secretary was, if we don't give information to those that are supposed to help us propagate the gospel, then we can't blame them for misinformation.

"The idea is that once in a fortnight, we meet and brief the press. It happens in the other climes. It happens in Government. This is so that there is no ambiguity. You can ask questions so that you can write based on your convictions, not just writing because oh, I am working in Government House.

"A journalist should be able to hold his own and stand with his convictions. We can not do that if we don't give you the opportunity to know what Government is doing and have you ask questions. You are actually the hope of the masses.

"So whether you are working for Government or you are on your own, there is a need for that briefing, to fill the gap, to ask questions, to be sure that we are carrying you along.

“We can also learn from you. I don't mind to be criticized, but let it be a constructive criticism that will be able to build", he stated .

Responding to questions from a Correspondent, the Governor who noted that he intended to run an open and transparent government, promised to ensure that due process was followed in all his dealings and described the media as critical partners for the success of any administration.

The Governor stated that the administration through the Ministry of Internal Security would create five thousand jobs from its Neighborhood Watch Programme which would engage people in the community for the security in their localities

On the imperative of the periodic briefing, he said that the interest of the people who he was elected to serve remains dear to his heart and spoke of his commitment to keep to his social contract with the people for the progress and development of the State.

“In your suggestions and your criticisms, as long as you are not abusing people, it is fine. We all have homes and we know that sometimes we have some challenges in managing our homes, not to talk of managing a diverse community like what we have. Different ethnic groups, different backgrounds and different orientations. So we understand that. Sometimes it is challenging. Sometimes people just have to draw your attention to certain things.

"So that's why I told the CPS that it would be better to have this gathering. In fact we wanted it weekly like he said but we later resolved it to be every fortnight, and I feel it's good. I won't come here all the time, but let him as my Chief Press Secretary to the Governor give the run down of Government activities within that two weeks and allow you ask him questions.

Governor Eno explained that the one project per local government stemmed from the needs assessment done to ascertain the need of each area, noting that he's working to deliver on those needs in collaboration with the stakeholders.

The Governor therefore appealed to citizens to be patient as his administration delivers on the campaign promises, maintaining that appointments are made based on exigencies of the administration.

Earlier while setting the tone, the Chief Press Secretary, Mr Ekerete Udoh had updated the reporters with a summary of Governor Eno’s accomplishments in the last three months, attributing them to the passionate and focused leadership stance of the Governor.

Eno's Administration is Focused, People Oriented, Ambassadors Replies Critics.

Miffed by the scratching criticism from some quarters that governor Umo Eno has taken up jobs of local government chairmen through recent interventions in remodeling primary schools and primary health care facilities in the state, the A.R.I.S.E Ambassadors recently inaugurated with Revd. Richard Peters as Chairman and Mr Thomas Thomas sa secretary has explained that the governor's actions were contained in his ARISE Agenda blue print.

The group in a private radio program monitored by our Correspondent on Tuesday in Uyo said the governor's Arise Agenda is a product of several interface and dialogue with the people where thier challenges were elaborately discussed and possible solutions offered.

According to the spokesperson of the group Mr Aniekeme Finbarr," Governor Umo Eno is a home grown leader who started his business in the state since 1995, he has clear understanding of the problems confronting our people. He assembled all of this into the acronym ARISE, meaning Agriculture, Rural development, Industrialisation, Security and Education as a platform to tackle the challenges Akwa ibom is facing".

Finbarr further highlighted, " people criticise his remodeling primary schools and primary health centers because they don't understand that its captured under rural development stressing that governor Umo Eno is interested in giving Akwa ibom children the same basic education obtained in advanced societies for free and complusorily.

He explained, " The governor has planned for 10 model primary schools in the 10 federal constituencies, we have three ongoing at the moment and they are to be equipped with sports facilities, primary health centers for emergency treatment and home for Head teacher and others. These facilities are what is obtainable in exclusive private schools for the rich but they will be free and complusory for every Akwa ibom child".

Finbarr added that the schools will groom children with the best and up to date facilities to become well trained and patriotic adults who will add value to the state and the nation.

The spokesperson maintained that the governor has in the last 90 days of his administration demonstrated unique leadership style which has left people wondering if he actually behave like a man with executive powers in Nigeria.

" They marvel at the way he stops at open market to discuss with traders and feel thier challenges and also patronize them, he attends social functions of people not minding thier societal status, he dashes into ibom Tropicana to get his hair cuts, he recently started flying Ibom Air to tell the world that the Airline is safe and comfortable for everyone. He acknowledged being the chief marketing officer. He has simply demisified governance as he is focused and people oriented in his leadership".

The federal government of Nigeria has approved the reopening of Seme’s land border for vehicle imports.
Ibrahim Moussa, head of the Ministry of Transport’s Roads and Transport Department, announced Wednesday.
Mr. Musa spoke at an Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) conference held between officials from Nigeria and the Republic of Benin, saying the development was due to complaints from freight forwarders operating at the Seme border clarified.
He said: “ I was here with the former Minister of Transport when carriers were arguing that borders should be reopened for the free movement of goods and services”.
Similarly, Customs Inspector Dera Nadi of the Seme Border command, who also spoke at the event, lamented that revenues from the service have declined since importing vehicles through land. The border had been suspended by the recent government.
Mr. Nnadi said, “The former Minister of Transport responded to some of the inquiries from us and our stakeholders and promised to submit them to the Federal Executive Commission (FEC).
“The ministry has informed us that a memo to the FEC has been drawn up and received and will be handed over to the new government. He has assured us that all requests will be accepted.

PHOTOS: Man Fakes Death, Turns Up At His Own Funeral In Helicopter

A 45-year-old man, David Baerten, in Belgium, faked his death and then arrived at his own burial in a helicopter to teach his family a lesson about keeping in touch.

Baerten, who is a TikTok creator, informed his wife and children about his plan, and they helped him by posting it on social media, according to DailyMail on Wednesday.

One of Baerten's daughters tricked her father's social media followers into believing his death by writing, “Rest in peace, Daddy. I will never stop thinking about you.

“Why is life so unfair? Why you? You were going to be a grandfather, and you still had your whole life ahead of you. I love you! We love you! We will never forget you.”

The family staged a funeral, and when mourners gathered, Baerten arrived by helicopter with a video team.

Baerten explained his actions, saying he did so to see how his extended family would react after he stated they had lost communication with him.

He said, “What I see in my family often hurts me. I never get invited to anything. Nobody sees me. We all grew apart. I felt unappreciated.

“That's why I wanted to give them a life lesson and show them that you shouldn't wait until someone is dead to meet up with them.”
