MARRIAGE IN SOUTH SUDAN MEANS 4 YEARS OF FREEDOM FOR BRIDE

Today we tour the Dinka custom of marriage. Despite payment of dowry that ranges from 100 to 500 cows, women are treated godly.
Once a man gets married, his wife will not cook or sweep for 4 years.

This period is called "Anyuuc" (Generous Welcoming). It is meant for the new bride to rest, relax and study her husband homestead values.

During this time, her husband's sister will do the cooking, washing utensils, collecting firewood, fetching water, and doing other domestic work till later.

After 4 years, her husband decides to arrange a very big party called "Thaat" (cooking festival) where 3 cows and 5 goats are slaughtered to initiate a wife into cooking for the family.

But if the man misbehaved during the 4 years the wife can decide to leave and she doesn't even have to pay back the dowry.

GOVERNOR EMMANUEL SPLASHES 100 MILLION NAIRA, PLOTS OF LAND ON AKWA UTD FOR WINNING NPFL TITLE

For emerging the champions of the Nigeria Professional Football League 2020/2021 season, Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State has rewarded Akwa United Football Club with the sum of one Hundred Million Naira.
Governor Emmanuel announced the state government's reward to the team during a grand reception ceremony organised in honour of the team at the banquet hall, government house in Uyo on Thursday 16th December, 2021.
In addition to the cash reward, the state's Chief Executive also donated plots of land for all members of the victorious team and a brand new 32 seater Coaster bus.
Governor Udom congratulated the team for making the state proud and encouraged them to put in their best to ensure they defend their title in the new football season.
"I just want to say thank you for making the state proud. Becoming champions is a thing of joy to all Akwa Ibomites.Keep that winning flag flying and we will continue to support the team to succeed.
" You have gone to the top, you have to redouble your effort this new season to ensure you remain at the top, once again congratulations for winning the league title".

After striking an agreement with prosecutors, the former police officer pleaded guilty to federal civil rights charges stemming from the May 2020 murder of George Floyd, a Black man who died in custody after Chauvin, who is white, pressed his knee into Floyd’s neck, back and shoulder for around 10 minutes. Chauvin originally pleaded not guilty to the federal charges on Sept. 14, along with the three other former Minneapolis officers. In a state trial earlier this year, he was found guilty of second-degree murder and sentenced to 22.5 years. The plea deal means the prosecution in the federal case will seek a 300-month maximum sentence instead of life imprisonment. Chauvin will serve the federal sentence concurrently with his state sentence.
