To the Government and Leaders of Nigeria

Subject: Democracy Day Reflection

Dear Leaders of Nigeria,

On this Democracy Day, many Nigerians are reflecting deeply on the state of the nation. While Democracy Day is meant to celebrate freedom, good governance, accountability, and the voice of the people, many citizens feel that the current realities do not reflect the true benefits of democracy.

Many Nigerians are facing economic hardship, unemployment, insecurity, and difficulties in meeting daily needs. Because of these challenges, some citizens feel that this period should not only be celebrated as a “Happy Democracy Day,” but also viewed as a reminder that civilian rule alone is not enough without visible democratic dividends for the people.

Democracy should go beyond elections and political leadership—it should improve the welfare of citizens, strengthen justice, create opportunities, and build public trust.

We respectfully call on leaders at all levels to listen to the concerns of Nigerians and work toward policies that improve living conditions and restore hope.

Nigeria belongs to all of us, and every citizen deserves to experience the true meaning of democracy.
