She arrived at Asokoro Hospital, heavily pregnant and in labour, her body shaking as contractions came stronger and faster. Instead of rushing to help her, the nurses told her,
"Go and get a referral from Maple Health Centre and make a deposit of ₦28,000 before we can admit you."
Imagine being in labour, fighting for your life and the lives of your unborn babies, and being sent away. 💔
She struggled, got the referral, filled out the forms but they told her again, “No bed space.”
They sent her to Maitama Hospital. By now, the contractions were unbearable. Her cries could melt a stone heart. But there too, she was rejected, “No bed space.”
At last, she made it to National Hospital, where they admitted her. But it was too late. She lost her beautiful twins. 💔😭
And now, let’s be sincere a wise woman should always register for antenatal care.
That is the truth. Antenatal visits reduce the stress and protocols when labour comes.
But even with that, what happened to this woman was sheer wickedness. Nothing justifies watching a mother suffer like that while two innocent lives slip away.
These babies didn’t die because they couldn’t be saved. They died because of a system that places protocols and payments above compassion.
How many more mothers must cry?
How many more babies must be buried before we value human lives above money and bureaucracy?
Nigeria, when will we learn? 🥺💔
