A CALL: WHY TIV MUST HAVE A NEW YAM FESTIVAL CELEBRATION

We are Tiv.

We farm yam more than any tribe in Nigeria. Zaki-Biam in Tiv land is the biggest yam market in Africa. It is our yam that made Benue to be called "Food Basket of the Nation."

But today, Igbo people celebrate New Yam Festival. Yoruba celebrate. Idoma celebrate. But we Tiv, the real owners of yam, have no central New Yam Festival.

This is not right.

WHY WE MUST CELEBRATE:

1. To Thank Aondo: New yam is life. Our fathers never ate new yam without first thanking God and the ancestors for giving them a good harvest and protecting them from hunger.

2. To Save Our Culture: If we don't celebrate yam, our children will not know its value. They will leave farming and our land will be empty. Festival teaches them pride.

3. To Unite Tiv: Tiv is scattered in Benue, Nasarawa, Taraba, Plateau, Cross River and Cameroon. New Yam Festival can bring all of us under one roof, under Tor Tiv.

4. To Make Money: If we celebrate it well, tourists will come from all over the world to see our yams, our A'nger, our Swange and Kwagh-hir. Our market women will sell. Our farmers will be honoured.

5. To Bless Our Farms: Our farms are facing herdsmen attacks, poor rain, and hunger. We need elders to bless the land again before we eat the new yam, to chase away evil.

OUR CALL TO TOR TIV, HRM. PROF. JAMES ORTESE AYATSE:

Begha U Tiv, our father, we beg you:

Give us a Tiv National New Yam Festival Day every year. Let all Ter, Mue Ter, U tyo mbaiorov, mbatarev and Ator akpande bring yams from across the Tiv angles. Let celebrate and as well sick blessings from our ancestors, let them bless our Land.

Let us hear the drums. Let us pound the new yam. Let us dance.

We earned the name Food Basket. Let us celebrate the basket.

Tor Tiv, please give us New Yam Festival.

Tiv People Need It. Our Yams Deserve Respect.
Let our ancestors be happy

AONDONGU PETER SULEAGBOUGH DESERVES THE ATTENTION OF MZOUGH U TIV (MUT) WORLDWIDE

Aondongu Peter Suleagbough deserves the attention of Mzough U Tiv (MUT) Worldwide for his efforts in this difficult movement against insecurity and criminal networks affecting our communities.
One of the greatest challenges facing our people is internal division. Internal enemies can be just as dangerous as external threats, especially when unity, trust, and collective responsibility are needed most.

The governments of Taraba and Benue States, alongside Mzough U Tiv Worldwide and other relevant traditional institutions, must take this situation seriously. The safety and well-being of Aondongu Peter Suleagbough should be a matter of concern, and his efforts deserve appropriate support through financial assistance, social engagement, traditional recognition, and lawful security measures.
Our people stand at a critical moment in the struggle for peace, security, freedom, and the restoration of normal life in our communities. This is a time for unity, courage, responsibility, and meaningful action.

With or without political power, we must recognise the importance of the little we can contribute. Every genuine effort toward peace and the protection of our people deserves attention from the relevant institutions.
We cannot afford to remain silent or allow this moment to pass without action. Our leaders, traditional institutions, and communities must work together to protect lives, strengthen unity, and build a safer future for the Tiv nation.

The time for collective responsibility is now.

For the first time, I want to thank the Tor Tiv, HRH Professor James Ayatse, for standing his ground in defence of the Tiv people in particular, and Benue State as a whole.

The Executive Chairman of Guma Local Government Council, Maurice Orwough, an inner-circle ally of Governor Hyacinth Alia, collected ₦50 million from Fulani herdsmen and is frustrating the DPO of Daudu Police Station, who has been restricting armed Fulani herdsmen from entering Guma.

In fact, Orwough wrote to the Nigerian Police authorities, requesting the transfer of the DPO out of Daudu. Fortunately for the people of Benue State, the Tor Tiv got wind of the move and warned Maurice Orwough to withdraw his petition against the DPO.

My people, the question we must ask is this: Are local government chairmen in Benue State strategically executing Miyetti Allah’s plans on behalf of Governor Hyacinth Alia?

IF WE AGREE OR NOT…By Ukan Kurugh.

The Benue State Government at the time allegedly had a hand in selling Gana out to be killed alongside other notable actors, for reasons best known to those involved. This is a story I know far too well to pretend otherwise.

But for now, I will hold my peace, One day, I may choose to speak about this matter exclusively and reveal what I know. Perhaps, when I eventually leave this country, I will tell the story in full.

Some stories are too sensitive to tell prematurely, but time has a way of bringing the truth to light.
