ONDO AT 50: GOVT BESTOWS STATE AWARDS ON FOUNDING FATHERS, EX-GOVERNORS, OTHERS

In a night of elegance and reflection, Ondo State on Tuesday celebrated its Golden Jubilee by honouring President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, elder statesman Chief Reuben Fasoranti, Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, and 67 other distinguished sons, daughters, and friends of the state.

Governor Aiyedatiwa described the evening as a fitting crescendo dedicated to legacy, excellence, and the recognition of service, reflecting the collective effort, shared sacrifice, and enduring aspirations of the state over five decades.

“The daytime celebrations at the Ondo State Sports Complex captured the mass spirit of our people and rekindled our resolve for a more prosperous state,” the governor said.

“Tonight is devoted to honour, legacy and recognition of those whose lives have brought distinction to Ondo State and contributed meaningfully to national development.”

He stressed that 50 years of statehood required maturity in engaging history, noting that societies advance only when excellence is celebrated and institutions endure when character is honoured.

The Governor emphasised that the awards were not ceremonial tokens but expressions of collective gratitude, highlighting that true excellence is discipline, purpose, and sustained contribution, not merely privilege.

Today, January 15, Nigeria again marks the Armed Forces Remembrance Day, AFRD.

It is more than a date on the calendar; it is a solemn national moment to honour the courage, sacrifice, patriotism and supreme price paid by the men and women who laid down their lives in service to the nation.

From the battlefields of the Nigerian Civil War to peacekeeping missions across Africa, and from counter-terrorism operations to the ongoing fight against insurgency, banditry, and other security challenges, members of the Armed Forces of Nigeria have demonstrated exceptional courage across diverse theatres of operation. Their sacrifices have restored normalcy to many communities, strengthened national stability, and formed the bedrock of our collective freedom and unity.

As the Last Post sounds and flags fly at half-mast, let us recommit ourselves to the ideals for which our fallen heroes stood: service, sacrifice, and nationhood.

May their memories inspire a Nigeria that is just, secure, and united, and may our actions ensure that their sacrifices were not in vain.

GOV AIYEDATIWA PRESENTS BUSES TO NLC, TUC, NUT, NUP. LAUNCHES EMBLEM APPEAL FUND, DONATES SALARY TO FALLEN HEROES

Ondo State Governor, Dr Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, on Monday handed over buses to major workers’ and retirees’ unions in a move aimed at enhancing mobility, coordination and service delivery across the state.

The unions benefiting from the initiative include the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) and the National Union of Pensioners (NUP).

Governor Aiyedatiwa said the initiative was intended to ease transportation challenges for union executives, allowing them to engage more effectively with government offices and support their members.

Meanwhile, Governor Aiyedatiwa, on Monday, officially launched the ₦5 million Emblem Appeal Fund to mark the commencement of activities for the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration in the state. The governor also donated his one-month salary to inaugurate the 2026 emblem.

Held at the Cocoa Conference Centre, Governor’s Office, Akure, the event honoured the courage, sacrifice and enduring legacies of men and women who laid down their lives defending Nigeria.
