HOW I SPENT 3 HOURS UNDER A BED JUST TO SEW 😭❤️
Let me tell you a story that always reminds me of how far I’ve come.
There was a time in my life when I didn’t even have a sewing machine.
Anytime I got a sewing job, I had to look for where I could use a machine.
My best friend was married, and she had a sewing machine at home. So whenever I had something important to sew, I would go to her house.
Sometimes, I would get there around 7pm, sew throughout the night, sleep over, and return home the next day.
But there was one particular night I will never forget.
I got to her house and started sewing around 8pm.
The problem was that her husband had already warned her:
“Please, don't allow anybody to use this machine.”
And even though her husband was also my good friend, I understood something very important...
Marriage is different.
My friend didn't want to disobey her husband, but she also knew how important that sewing job was to me.
So somehow, she allowed me to use the machine.
I was sewing peacefully when suddenly...
KNOCK! KNOCK! KNOCK!
My friend looked at me and shouted:
“MY HUSBAND IS HERE!” 😭
Before I could even process what was happening, she told me to hide under the bed.
Imagine me...
Under somebody's bed...
With my tape rule around my neck, holding my fabric, trying not to make a sound. 😂😭
Her husband entered.
And I stayed there.
One hour passed.
I was still under the bed.
Two hours passed.
My back had started screaming for help. 😭
Three hours passed!
At this point, I was asking myself:
“could life be this cruel ?” 😂😭
I was uncomfortable, my body was aching, and I couldn't even move properly.
But do you know what kept me there?
I couldn't disappoint my client.
That job had to be completed.
Eventually, her husband left.
And when I finally came out from under that bed, I didn't say:
“I'm going home.”
No!
I went straight back to the sewing machine.
I continued sewing through the night because I had a client waiting for me.
Looking back now, I realize something...
People see the beautiful clothes.
They see the finished designs.
They see the designer standing confidently behind her brand.
But they don't always see the struggles, sacrifices, sleepless nights, rejection, tears, and uncomfortable moments that came before the success.
So, to every upcoming fashion designer watching this...
If you are currently sewing with a borrowed machine...
If you are struggling to get equipment...
If you are working from a small space...
If you are learning with very little...
Please don't give up.
Because one day, you will look back and realize that those difficult moments were part of your story.
Today, I don't have to hide under anybody's bed to sew. 😂😭
Today, by the grace of God, I have built Tino Enny Fashion Academy, and I have thousands of sewing machines available for training.
Sometimes I look at where I am today and remember where I started...
And all I can say is:
TO GOD BE THE GLORY. 🙏❤️
So when you see me today as a fashion designer and businesswoman, please know that I didn't just wake up here.
I have passed through fire. 🔥
And if I could survive those days, you can survive yours too.
Keep learning.
Keep practicing.
Keep pushing.
Your own testimony is coming. ❤️
