A photograph on a wall, a familiar room, the quiet presence of everyday objects sometimes these become the keepers of memory long after a moment has passed.

In Present On Wall, Oluwatobiloba Fasalejo (Oluwatobiloba Fasalejo I Artist & Writer) reflects on the emotional weight carried by domestic spaces and the subtle ways absence can continue to shape our understanding of home, family, and belonging. Rooted in personal experience, the work invites us to consider how the places we inhabit preserve the stories, relationships, and silences that form us.

On view as part of 'The Rooms We Carry' at Retro Africa, Abuja.

Through sculptural forms that balance solidity with openness, Uzor Ugoala (UZOR UGOALA) explores questions of self-discovery, purpose, and transformation. Working with wood, resin, and metal, he creates quiet yet powerful works that examine the relationship between presence and absence, structure and freedom.

Seen together within the gallery, these sculptures invite viewers to move around them, discovering new perspectives and reflecting on the spaces both physical and emotional that shape our experience of the world.

On view as part of 'The Rooms We Carry' at Retro Africa, Abuja, through September 2026.

Colour, gesture, and movement become a language of their own in the work of Tiwa Akinjide (T).

Working through layers, erasure, and intuitive mark-making, Akinjide creates abstract compositions that explore the relationship between control and unpredictability. His paintings are spaces for contemplation, open-ended environments where emotion, uncertainty, and transformation can exist without needing to be resolved.

As part of 'The Rooms We Carry', his work reflects the exhibition’s wider inquiry into the inner spaces we inhabit and the continuous process of becoming.

Now on view at Retro Africa, Abuja, through September 2026.

Every visitor brings a new perspective.

As people move through 'The Rooms We Carry', each work invites its own conversations, interpretations, and moments of reflection. It is in these shared encounters between artwork and viewer that the exhibition continues to evolve, revealing how differently we each carry memory, identity, faith, longing, and hope.

Thank you to everyone who has spent time with the exhibition so far. 'The Rooms We Carry' remains on view at Retro Africa, Abuja, through September.

Christopher Samuel Idowu’s (Christopher Samuel Idowu) Call To Fruitfulness I (Return) explores the spaces between memory, transformation, and spiritual renewal. Through layers of conte crayon, charcoal, pastel, spray paint, acrylic, and oil, Idowu builds an atmospheric surface where earthly experience meets the ethereal.

The work invites contemplation on what it means to return, to oneself, to faith, to memory, and to the possibility of becoming anew.

On view as part of The Rooms We Carry at Retro Africa.

Some of the most meaningful conversations begin in front of a work of art.

Seeing families experience 'The Rooms We Carry' together reminds us that the exhibition is as much about shared reflection as it is about individual interpretation. Across generations, the works invite dialogue about memory, belonging, identity, and the stories that quietly shape our lives.

The Rooms We Carry is currently on view at Retro Africa, Abuja, through September 2026.
