'What It Took' explores the journey behind accomplishment.
The crown represents success, but I wanted to draw attention to everything that exists beneath it, the effort, pressure, sacrifice and persistence.

We often celebrate what someone has achieved without asking what they had to endure to get there.
Through the figures and their expressions, I reflect on the unseen side of success and the personal cost that can come with it.

There’s always a point in the process where the painting starts telling you what it wants to become.
I think I’m getting there with this one.

I start with my idea, the painting says hold on, I want to follow another part just like girls would often do (allegedly)

Titled: Nearly

From the series, Things That Bind Us

Nearly is a painting about the bond between people who share the same hopes, struggles, and disappointments.
Inspired by people playing bets, the work reflects a moment where there is no room for enmity, only shared anticipation, excitement, and empathy.

In life, many of us have stood at the edge of something we deeply desire, only to come nearly close.
Yet, in that experience, we are never truly alone. Somewhere, someone is also waiting, hoping, and trying.

Perhaps what binds us most is not always what we achieve, but the things we nearly had and the shared hope that keeps us trying.

That's that excitement when you're talking about an experience you had and the person you're talking to has the same experience, the story is always deeper and more exciting. These are things that bind us all.
