“Social Media Is Not a Balance Sheet of Our Lives”
Let’s have an honest conversation.
Most times, it’s heartbreaking seeing childhood friends, classmates, street guys, hostel mates… look at our social media posts and conclude:
> “Ah! This one has made it.”
> “He’s ahead of us.”
> “She’s doing better than everyone.”
But the truth?
Most of us are not ahead. We are just showing up.
We are not rich.
We are not settled.
We are not there yet.
We are simply hustlers trying to build something —
• building value
• building brands
• building credibility
• building consistency
• building relevance within our professions and disciplines
Social media only shows moments, not the process.
It shows results, not the pressure.
It shows smiles, not the silent struggles.
The Painful Part
Some friends see our growth posts and assume we are financially stable.
Then they reach out for help — urgent bills, business support, rent issues, family needs.
And when we honestly say, “I can’t help right now,”
they feel disappointed.
Sometimes offended.
Sometimes distant.
But what many don’t realize is this:
👉 The person you are asking for help might also be praying for help.
👉 The person posting wins might still be fighting battles.
👉 The “successful” friend might be managing debts, responsibilities, and pressure silently.
Let’s Normalize This Truth
1. Progress online does not equal financial abundance.
2. Visibility does not mean stability.
3. Consistency does not mean comfort.
Some of us are building foundations, not flexing wealth.
To My Friends and Peers
Please don’t measure your life using someone’s highlight reel.
Don’t assume someone is ahead just because they post more.
Don’t feel left behind because someone is visible.
Everyone is fighting something.
Everyone is building something.
Everyone is becoming something.
We are not competitors.
We are contemporaries.
Let’s Shift the Mindset
Instead of:
“Ah, he has gone far.”
Try:
“How can we collaborate?”
