Hey guys. This is Soundcheck101, a series by Sound_Score Audio aimed at educating and empowering sound engineers, sound managers and audio enthusiast alike with the basic knowledge of PA system set-up, gear management, 'do' and 'don't' of audio management.
( Previous exposure to audio engineering would be helpful but if you are a total newbie also, you should have no problems Following through as the article will be made unambiguous to understand)
Before we proceed any further, keep in mind the following:
1) there is no specific arrangement, settings, or formula for sound settings.
2) the rule of thumb; Less is better.
3) your first knowledge about your audio equipments and gears should come from the user's manual.
4) Always use equipments according to manufacturer specifications.
A lot of people boast 20+yrs of experience working in and around the sound engineering and live sound setup industry, but with a little short of a decade of experience of my own, I can tell you that it is an industry where you learn the craft by actually 'working' the craft.
Get yourself actively involved in sound analysis, reach out to others in the field and share experience together.
Having said all that, it is worth noting the first tip mentioned above about there being no specific arrangement, settings, or formula for sound settings as the same set up for 'Room A' will almost definitely not work for 'Room B' . This is what makes the Idea of sound engineering intriguing (it can be exciting and as well challenging).
Let's look at the second tip. The rule of thumb; less is better. This is where we get to save ourselves from head aches and frustration, both in PA system setup and audio mixing. The concept is based on the fact that what isn't there can't cause you headache (We shall discuss this in details subsequently).
When you are to install new equipments, hardwares or gears into your PA system, it is imperative you go through the user manual provided by the manufacturer. This enables you to get first hand, how the device was designed to function, it's capacity, its intended use, limitations etc.
Lastly, while you are free to implement a Device as you deem fit or probably as it suits the need of your sound system, it is advisable gears, hardwares, devices etc are used to specifications to avoid damage of the equipment, electrical hazards and also impaired Audio production.
That will be all for this time. Till we come your way next.
