The Adire Cultural Festival, known for spotlighting traditional craftsmanship, devoted the day to exhibiting the depth, colour, and symbolism of Adire—Abeokuta’s globally recognised fabric art. Organisers described Day Four as a reaffirmation of cultural pride, noting that the craft remains a strong economic and artistic pillar within the region..

This year’s Adireliganza showcase was organised in collaboration with Lai Labode Liganza, a prominent promoter of Yoruba textile art and creative enterprise. The partnership was widely praised for elevating the quality of the event and attracting a broader audience of designers, students, and cultural stakeholders.

Participants from various zones displayed exceptional creativity as they presented their unique interpretations of Adire patterns and dyeing techniques. The judges highlighted the high level of innovation, describing the works as a testament to the continued evolution of the indigenous craft.

At the end of the keenly contested competition, Peper Dem Zone clinched the position of second runner-up, while Ẹwà Adire Bada Zone secured the spot of first runner-up. Their collections impressed the panel with bold pattern combinations and strong thematic expressions rooted in tradition.

Day Three of Adire Cultural Festival Shines With Historic Zones Parade

Day Three of the annual Adire Cultural Festival drew crowds in their thousands on Wednesday as the much-anticipated Zones Parade took centre stage. The event, regarded as one of the festival’s most colourful displays, showcased the heritage of olden-days Adire through the participation of 16 cultural zones. Spectators lined the major routes early in the morning, eager to witness the traditional procession.

The parade opened with a ceremonial drum call, signaling the arrival of the first zone. Each group emerged in turn, adorned in hand-dyed Adire fabrics featuring patterns that have survived generations. The designs, created with techniques such as oniko, alabere, and eleko, reflected the rich history of Yoruba textile artistry. Many attendees remarked that seeing these traditional motifs revived in full grandeur was one of the festival's most memorable moments.

Festival organizers said this year’s theme—Celebrating Our Roots Through Fabric—was intentionally chosen to highlight the importance of cultural preservation. Day 1 of the Adire Cultural Festival opened with vibrant energy as colors, patterns, and traditions filled the atmosphere. The festival grounds came alive with the sounds of drums, the movement of dancers, and the sight of beautifully crafted Adire fabrics proudly worn by participants. It was a day set aside to celebrate artistry, history, and cultural identity.

The pictorial activities of the day captured the essence of the festival. Cameras clicked endlessly as artisans displayed their dyeing techniques, visitors admired the intricate patterns, and models showcased various Adire designs. Each photograph told a story—one of creativity, pride, and generations of knowledge passed down through time.

Adire is not just a fabric; it is a heritage deeply rooted in Yoruba culture. Every pattern carries meaning, every color represents history, and every cloth symbolizes the resilience and creativity of the people. It gives me great pleasure to welcome you all to this press briefing on the forthcoming 2026 Adire Cultural Festival — a grand celebration of our heritage, creativity, and cultural pride.

The Adire Cultural Festival has over the years become a major platform for promoting our indigenous textile industry, empowering women and youths, and showcasing the beauty of Yoruba artistry to the world. The 2026 edition promises to be even more vibrant, inclusive, and impactful, as we continue to sustain Ogun State’s leadership in cultural innovation and creative enterprise.

This year’s theme, “Adire: Our Fabric, Our Future,” emphasizes the importance of preserving our cultural identity while developing the Adire industry as a sustainable economic driver for our people.

Let me highlight the program of events for the festival week:

Monday: Iwure Aje Adire / Royal Visitation of the Egbas Oba – Traditional blessings and royal endorsement from our revered monarchs.

Tuesday: Interfaith Prayer Session – Joint Muslim and Christian prayers for peace and prosperity.

Wednesday: Adire Igba Ewe Mi – Youth and women empowerment day with exhibitions, training, and competitions.

Thursday: Zones Parade – A colorful parade by all Adire zones showcasing culture, unity, and creativity.

Friday: Special Jumat Service and Children Parade – A day of spiritual reflection and celebration of our children.

Saturday: Grand Finale – The peak of festivities with a grand Adire fashion showcase, cultural performances, and awards for excellence.

Sunday: Thanksgiving Service – A moment of gratitude for a successful and peaceful celebration.
