*KEGITES CLUB INT'L. IN THE PUBLIC GLARE: A VIVID CLARIFICATION*
Painstakingly, I have observed the actions and avalanche of verbal reactions of some public actors to the script of ugly misconception, misinformation, brazen and ravaging ignorance about the locus standi as well as the modus operandi of the Kegites Club International and its members, especially since the painful demise of Chief Desmond Obukhowo. I could not help the unsavory situation than to quickly and vividly put in black and white this insightful clarification to redeem the long-standing image and reputation of our dear Club, for "The man dies in him who keeps silent when it matters most".
It is important if not imperative to categorically and unequivocally state at this juncture that, the Kegites Club is NOT, has NOTHING to do with, and CAN NEVER be a secret cult group; for darkness and light have nothing in common. It is worthy of note that, the Kegites Club and secret cult groups are on parallel lines, meaning that we CAN NEVER meet. Even though there are a few bad eggs in our midst which are often obtainable in every human organization including the church, the Club still stands tall and vehemently frowns at cultism and other immoral engagements on campus and beyond. Therefore, it only amounts to sheer ignorance and the height of misconceptions to spuriously accuse this highly reputable and revered Club of being a cult group or fanning the embers of cultism.
Nevertheless, the Kegites Club is fun making 1st class socio-cultural Club on campus and beyond, which is deeply rooted in Africa's rich cultural heritage. The herald of the Club could be traced and centered on the overriding unity that exists between wine tappers and drinkers who mostly assemble or gather where the celebration of palm wine is often exalted. Typically, this depicts a mental picture of the traditional society and setting in Africa.
The Club was strategically instituted to unite students/people from diverse ethnic backgrounds to ensure peace, social cohesion, and harmonious coexistence on campus and beyond. The underlying philosophy and ideological orientation of this reputable Club remain intact and sacrosanct as instituted by the Founding Fathers. They shared a common interest that served as a unifying factor in their fulfillment and pride of being born as full-fledged Africans.
Overall, our core mandate is primarily focused and centered on the preservation and upliftment of the rich cultural heritage of Africa.
Academic excellence and discipline as instituted by our Founding Fathers, have remained the cornerstones of our sincere existence. Through this Club, we demonstrate our interest and zeal for social solidarity as well as nation-building.
Consequently, the age-long goodwill and general acceptability of the Club as a veritable organ for promoting social interaction, social solidarity, unity, peace, harmony, constructive engagement of like-minds, as well as national integration cannot be overemphasized. We are resolute and ethically guided to exhibit only behaviors that conform to contemporary moral standards within and outside the Club as torchlight Ambassadors of our darling Club.
It is against this backdrop and in the light of the foregoing that I wish to summarily adumbrate some of these clarifications, thus:
1. The Kegites Club is a non-violent fun-making socio-cultural Club deeply rooted in the rich cultural heritage of Africa and is NOT and CAN NEVER be a cult group.
2. "Unity in diversity" is the motto of the Club. This is a major feature of Nigerian federalism today. The unity which also connotes oneness should be diversified in all ramifications of our interaction with one another for a balanced and peaceful society.
3. The Club was formed by reputable Nigerian students in the higher institution, and well registered and recognized on campus and not in the bush or jungle.
4. The green and white colors used in the Club are symbolically similar to that of the Nigerian flag.
5. The process of becoming a member is harmless and not forceful.
6. The Club is over 60 years now and was the first recognized socio-cultural group on campus. It has long been in existence before any cult group was formed.
7. The Club is armless and harmless as members and branches of the Club are numerously found in Nigeria and abroad.
8. Notable, reputable, reasonable, responsible, and successful men and women belong to the Club.
9. The Club helps to ease academic tension and also unite people from diverse ethnic backgrounds on campus and beyond.
10. The Club is open to all (both male and female) members of society, especially students in higher institutions of learning.
11. Any member can freely leave the Club anytime, any day without being assaulted or harassed as obtainable in cult groups.
12. The Club has ethics and rules guiding each member and vehemently frowns at disobedience and immoral engagements.
13. Any member that is found and proven to be a cultist is immediately expelled/dismissed from the Club.
14. Academic excellence and discipline are the cornerstones of the Club's sincere existence.
15. The Club ensures value consensus, national unity, and integration.
16. The Club has a peculiar dialectical parlance that distinguishes members' communication patterns.
17. Handshakes and salutations in the Club depict unity, oneness, and love.
18. The Club is supported, recognized, and registered with the Student Affairs Department of every higher institution where it exists.
19. The Club enjoys goodwill, recognition, and general acceptability from informed members of the public, especially during outings and gyrations.
20. The Club extends warm solidarity and support to dedicated members in times of need.
21. Palm wine which is an indigenous African drink and a symbol of unity, is the only officially accepted/allowed drink in the Club.
22. All activities of the Club are done in the open and nothing is secret.
23. Upon induction into the Club, every new member takes a verbal oath of allegiance/vow not to belong to any secret cult.
24. Kegites Club is NOT an affiliate of any secret cult, hence, no cultist hides under the guise/cloak of the Club to perpetrate evil/cultism.
25. The Club's organizational ability is top-notch as our programs and activities are carried out with decorum, elegance, and finesse, even to the admiration and envy of the general public.
Conclusively, let ignoramus and less informed members of the general public stop the stereotype and misconception. The Kegites Club is NOT and CAN NEVER be a cult group.
Let us all avoid cultism and remain karid.
SAY NO TO CULTISM AND OTHER SOCIAL VICES
Long live the rich cultural heritage of Africa!
Long live the Kegites Club Int'l.!!
May our days be long!!!
