Earthquake kills dozens in northwestern China

EBONYI STATE GOVERNMENT TO ESTABLISH UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY IN IZZI LAND

•As Governor Umahi urged Ebonyians to take care of their parents while alive.

The Governor of Ebonyi State, Engineer David Nweze Umahi, FNSE, FNATE has charged people to always take adequate care of their parents while they live to enjoy their blessings.

Governor Umahi made the call during the internment of his Aunty, late Mrs. Theresa Umahi at Umuchima in Ohaozara Local Government Area of the State.

While describing his late Aunt who died at the age of 86 as a great home builder, he said she would be missed for her humility and good virtues.

"You should find yourself an opportunity while your parents still live to take good care of them, a lot of us have had the opportunity to take care of our parents, everyone has got something to give, Honour your father and mother so that your days will be long and it shall be well with you".

He announced that his administration is committed to completing all ongoing projects before the end of the year.

"We will become a reference point when it comes to Development when it comes to building and we shall do it, we are going to complete all our ongoing projects including the airport and let me inform you that the King David University of Medical Sciences will take off by September this year."

The Governor, while announcing that the King David University of Medical Sciences will take off in September, said the Government would relocate the proposed Faculty of Engineering, EBSU to assume the status of the Ebonyi State University of Technology in Izzi land.

He noted that his administration would also establish the University of Aeronautic Engineering in Ezza land before leaving office in 2023.

"I love education so much that we established the King David Medical College," he said.

"The EBSU Faculty of Engineering which I started will be located in Izzi (Council Area) and it is now a University of Technology and it will be completed before I leave office", he said.

The governor insisted that education and social welfare will continue to receive priority attention from his administration.

"From 2022, there will be massive empowerment of our people.

"We will complete all ongoing projects this year." When people criticize us, we reply to them with more projects, he averred.

He encouraged youths to revaluate themselves to be able to make informed contributions to societal development.

The Governor noted that his administration would launch full-blown empowerment for Ebonyi Women and Youth in May to give citizens a new lease of life.

He attributed the successes of his administration to the work of God, insisting that the Government would not rest until it sets an unbeatable record in the governance of any State in Nigeria.

Prof. Nnenna Oti from Afikpo in Ebonyi State emerges the VC of Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO).

Professor Oti, a native of Afikpo North Local Government Area of the State scaled through a thorough screening of 7 candidates listed for the position to emerge.

Prof. Nnenna Oti is a Professor of Soil Science and Environmental Conservation, a three-time Head of Department of Soil Science and Technology in the School of Agricultural and Agriculture Technology (SAAT) and the immediate past chairman, Gender Policy Unit who has spent over 34yrs in academics, teaching research and administration in the Nigerian university system with international exposure.

Governor David Nweze Umahi has congratulated the University Don on her well-deserved attainment and wished her well in her Service to humanity.

He expressed hope that with the Vice Chancellor's wealth of knowledge in academics spanning over 35 years, she would do Ebonyians proud in her new position.

"Ebonyians are noted for hard work all over the world and it is that hard work that has brought you this far, I have no doubt in my mind that you will do us proud in this your new position knowing very well the stuff you are made, you can always count on our prayers and moral support"

May God continue to strengthen and guide the Vice-Chancellor in the daily exercise of her office.

COMMUNIQUE ISSUED BY SOUTHEAST GOVERNORS AND HEADS OF SECURITY AGENCIES AT THE END OF THE FIRST SOUTHEAST SECURITY SUMMIT HELD IN OWERRI ON SUNDAY APRIL 11TH 2021

After exhaustive discussions on the
challenges in the South East and with valuable contributions
from participants at the first southeast security summit in Owerri on this day Sunday, April 11, 2021, it was resolved as follows:

1. To strongly and unequivocally condemn terrorism and banditry in any part of Nigeria, particularly in the South East. The meeting strongly condemns the
burning of police stations, violent attacks on custodial centers with the unlawful release of inmates, and the killings including security personnel, natives/ farmers
and headsmen.

2. That the five southeast states are on the same page with the federal government on the issue of security challenges in the country. To this end, the meeting makes it clear that the southeast will stand resolutely with the federal government to fight terrorists and bandits to a finish

3. That the political leadership in the Southeast has resolved to bring together all the arsenals at their command, as one united zone, to fight and flush out criminals and terrorists from the zone.

4. That the summit resolved that to achieve this, there is a need to galvanize all the relevant stakeholders in the southeast,
the political class, the business community, the bureaucrats and the intelligentsia to provide all necessary support to security operatives in the five southeast states to ensure total success in the fight against criminality in the zone.

5. That the heads of all the security agencies in the southeast have resolved to exchange intelligence in a seamless, effective new order that will help to checkmate crime in the zone.

6. That to fast-track crime-busting in the southeast, the heads of security agencies have been mandated to draw up a comprehensive list of their logistics and material needs for sustainable success in the fight against criminality, for the immediate provision by the leadership of the southeast.

7. That a committee made up of security personnel, government officials and relevant stakeholders are to be set up to coordinate and monitor the implementation of the southeast joint security platform.

8. To applaud the initiative of the Southeast security summit and to make it a statutory summit that will
convene every quarter while its hosting shall rotate among
the five southeast states.

9. The meeting resolved to maintain a joint security vigilante for the South East otherwise known as Ebubeagu Joint Security Network.

10. The meeting appreciated the formation of South East joint security outfit named Ebubeagu Headquarters in Enugu to coordinate our vigilante in the South East.

11. South East Governors requested the Acting IGP to stop
the influx of IGP monitory units but to allow CPS and State and Zonal commands to handle their cases.

12. Meeting approves that the acting IGP and other security chiefs do invite the leadership of Ohaneze Ndigbo and CAN to find out the reason for increasing insecurity
of the South East.

13. Meeting agreed that military policing in the South East
should be adequately funded and become effective.

14. Meeting agreed that open grazing has been banned and
security agencies should implement the ban.

15. The meeting encouraged a peaceful coexistence of
farmers and headers to allow Governors to succeed in
the fight against criminality.

EBONYI IS FAST DEVELOPING

No matter what you were told or heard about Ebonyi, it's undoubtedly the fastest growing State in the South East.

The Governor Engr. David Nweze Umahi today, 6th April 2021 inspected the ongoing 30-Span Iyere Bridge at Owutu Edda in Afikpo LGA.

The flyover, when completed will not only reduce the number of accidents on this road, it will also boost economic activities and open pathways of business between Ebonyi State and Abia State.

The Iyere flyover is the 17th flyover that is embarked upon by the present administration. Among these seventeen flyovers, twelf had been completed, five are 30% on course, while two are at their preliminary stages.

Ebonyi people, like the rest of the Igbo Nation are peace loving people. There are hardworking buisness men and women in Ebonyi as there are farmers too who feed the entire nation through cultivation of stable foods such as yam, rice etc.

The Ebonyi Rice popularly known as Abakaliki Rice comes from Ebonyi State. The people of Ebonyi both home and in diaspora are very hospitable, honest and God fearing.

Ebonyi people have had a fair share of her internal crisis. The penultimate been the disputes that ensued between the people of Ezaa and Effium communities of Ebonyi State.

The recent been the barbaric massacre of the people of Ededege community of Ishielu LGA. The attack was carried out by Fulnai Headsmen on the 30th of March 2021 which left over 17 persons dead, 25 motorbikes destroyed, 2 cars and 3 shots burnt down. The good people of Enonyi State have condemned very strongly these killings and called on the FGN to find the perpetrators and ensure justice is served.

The Federal Government in response to the call of Ebonyi people, sent the Vice President Professor Yemi Osinbajo to visit Ededege and Effium communities in both Oshielu and Ohaukwu LGAs respectively. The Vice President took to his page to share his Afterthought:

"I cannot imagine the heartache and pain of the families that lost loved ones in the attacks that took place in the Ededege in Ishielu and Effium in Ohaukwu LGA of Ebonyi State a few days ago.

At the direction of President , I visited Ededege in Isielu LGA and and Effium in Ohaukwu LGA in Ebonyi State today first to commiserate with the families and secondly to engage with leaders of the communities on some pertinent issues.

We are confronting these acts of violence with a better model of cooperation and integration. We are in conversation with the GOC about securing the communities as well as strengthening relationships with the local community so they share more information with law enforcement".

We as Ebonyi people have resolved to leave in peace and harmony with our immediate brothers and extended families but cannot and never to cohabitate or welcome those whose aim is to kill and maims us.

This is our job and we shall uphold this mandate with every strength and might. We thank the person of Professor Yemi Osinbajo and the good people of Ebonyi. Ebonyi State International Mall is structurally completed, presently at the finishing level. This mall is unarguably the biggest and first of its kind in the entire West-Africa.

It is made of five floors and modeled after the Dubai Mall ie. The Microcosm of the Macrocosm of the Dubai Mall.

All that the Governor, Engr. David Umahi has brought and is bringing into Ebonyi State are first of their kind. In no time from now, Ebonyi will become a center of attraction in the country. The economic importance of this project is already glaring as we can feel it.

Behold the ongoing Ebonyi State College of Medicine, a first of its kind in Africa. Governor David Umahi is signing his autograph of engineering ingenuity in everything he touches.

He has declared that this uncommon edifice will be completed and will commence full operation by August, 2021.
