Thank you so much to everyone who joined us for the opening of Lynette Musukubili’s second solo exhibition this past weekend.

Lynette Musukubili meticulously crochets, stitches and weaves plastic into richly textured tapestries and sculptural forms. Each pieces of plastic arrives carrying the traces of another life. And through the slow, meditative act of making, it becomes part of a new story—shaped by the memory, experience and reflection of the artist.

Once these works leave the studio and find new homes, they will continue to gather stories of their own.

A beautiful cycle of transformation lies at the heart of Material Memories.

Join us this Saturday for the opening of Lynette Musukubili’s second solo exhibition Material Memories.

This new body of work demonstrates a growing confidence in Musukubili’s artistic language. Plastic is a material loaded with contradiction. It is durable, adaptable, and capable of taking countless forms throughout its lifespan. Yet it is also one of the defining environmental challenges of our time, persisting long after its intended use has ended. In Musukubili’s hands, however, plastic becomes something else entirely. It becomes a vessel for reflection, connection, and memory.

Join us next week for the opening of Intricacy, a solo exhibition by seasoned Namibian artist Kabelo Kim. The exhibition presents a new body of detailed linocut works that continue the artist’s long-standing engagement with the architecture of birds’ nests, particularly the instinctive weaving techniques of weaver birds. Through these intricate compositions, Kim reflects on broader questions of belonging, sustainability, land, and the fragile relationship between humanity and the natural world. We look forward to welcoming you all.

Thank you so much to everyone who joined us for the opening of latest solo exhibition. The title Be Longing holds a quiet tension. It separates the idea of belonging into two states: being and longing. To belong is often understood as feeling at home—within a place, within a community, or within oneself. But Anne reminds us that belonging is rarely that simple. It is fluid. It shifts. And very often, it exists alongside a sense of longing—for another place, another version of ourselves, or another moment in time.

DRESS CODE; dress like you belong

Join us this Friday for the opening of Be Longing by Anne Lacheiner-Kuhn. The artist’s collage practice brings together images and objects in carefully constructed compositions, where fragments of different contexts coexist within a single frame. Each element retains traces of its origin, yet contributes to a new narrative when combined with others. The resulting works mirror the way identities are built from overlapping experiences, memories and cultural references.

BE LONGING

Over the past decade, Lacheiner-Kuhn has exhibited widely both locally and internationally, with shows across Namibia, South Africa, Europe and the United States. Her work has been shortlisted for awards such as the Clifford Chance Sculpture Award and the SASOL New Signatures Award, and forms part of notable collections including that of the Department of Science and Technology in Pretoria. Alongside her artistic practice, she has also established an unusual parallel career as a Special Effects Snow Technician in the film industry, contributing to major productions including Murder on the Orient Express, Game of Thrones and House of Gucci.

Yet it is the quieter and more introspective questions of identity and selfhood that form the centre of her artistic practice.

“My work has always explored identity in some way, so the idea of ‘be longing’ has always been present,” she explains. “Splitting my life between Namibia and the UK, the concept has become more amplified over the last three years. Both places give you a different sense of belonging, and when you are in one, you inherently miss or long for the other.”

In her upcoming solo exhibition Be Longing, Namibian artist Anne Lacheiner-Kuhn reflects on the shifting and often contradictory nature of belonging. Through a new body of collage-based works that expand into layered, three-dimensional compositions, the exhibition explores how identity is shaped by place, memory and movement.

This tension between being and longing lies at the heart of the exhibition’s title. It suggests both the state of existing in a place—being—and the simultaneous desire for something beyond it—longing. For Lacheiner-Kuhn, these dual states mirror the lived experience of many people navigating multiple cultural and geographic identities.

TIME AND LIGHT

Pop by the gallery to view the latest showing by Helga Kohl. Many of you will recognise her iconic images of Kolmanskop, where the desert slowly moves through doorways and across rooms, reclaiming what was once a thriving diamond mining town. In the photographs from Elizabeth Bay we see something similar — buildings standing quietly against the forces of erosion and time. In contrast, the architectural abstractions from Windhoek remind us that this fascination with form, line and structure is not limited to ruins; it is present in the contemporary city as well.
