From the Collection: The Dutch Man-of-War 'Friesland' ⚓️
Launched in 1663, the Friesland was a titan of the Dutch Golden Age. As a second-rate ship of the line, she was a primary instrument of naval power during a century defined by global trade expansion and fierce maritime conflict.
Carrying 80 guns and built for endurance in the Baltic and beyond, the Friesland played a critical role in securing the Dutch Republic’s dominance on the high seas. This model illustrates the transition to heavily armed, specialized warships that changed the face of naval warfare forever.
