[ Sounds of Asia ]

Pretty much what it says on the tin.

Music made across the continent, and music that carries its influence, samples and stories.

This time, We’ve asked EMAI from Deepcuts Collective to open up the Asian side of his collection, From disco to new wave, Malaysia to Thailand, old production to newer edits and whatever else has found its way into his collection.

Matching the energy Typo D continues his long-running Cantonese rabbit hole, which has slowly spread into other corners of Asia. Familiar melodies, unfamiliar languages.

Majority of proceed goes to cover the selectors increasing debt from music buying, Yes, even digital music cost money!

**The night is about shining a light on sounds from Asia, but don’t expect a strict rulebook — our selectors might step outside the continent when needed to keep the set flowing and the feet moving.

Small room, Limited space.

[ BRING YOUR OWN GAO ]

GAO = plastic / vinyl in Cantonese.

Vinyl digging is basically doomscrolling for music nerds.
You start looking for one record, three hours disappear, you find five questionable things, two absolute gems, and one record that makes you wonder why you didn’t buy it when you had the chance.

So, bring your Gao.

Rare digs, strange records, forgotten favourites, questionable purchases. We want to hear them all. We’re more interested in the odd, obscure and slightly left-field than the obvious crowd-pleasers.

Nothing too heavy. This is still a gathering, not a test of your hearing. Final decision, as always, goes to our selectors.

1 drink minimum.
*BYOG is a participation-based gathering. If nobody in your group is bringing a record, RM10 contribution goes into the gear maintainance pot.

Programming:
Some artists leave behind a catalogue too vast to understand in a single sitting. Rather than attempting to cover everything, this session follows one thread through Sakamoto’s lifelong relationship with the piano.

Hosted by Ongaku O Kiku’s Bunga Actiongirl with the listening system curated by FEED YOUR PROCESS! l o o n , the evening journeys from 1996, through BTTB (Back to the Basics), and concludes with Opus—his final recorded performance.

Together, these three works trace the evolution of Sakamoto’s musical language: from the intimate chamber arrangements of 1996, to the stripped-back lyricism of BTTB, and finally Opus, a quiet farewell that revisits a lifetime of compositions with remarkable clarity and grace.

The music will be played through a carefully assembled vintage hi-fi system featuring a Marantz Model 8B, McIntosh C11, and Tannoy Arden Mk II loudspeakers. Chosen for its warmth, depth and natural presentation, the system reveals the subtle touch, resonance and silence that sit at the heart of Sakamoto’s piano works.

An evening of attentive listening, shared in the same room.

As uncle Ken said, with great response comes great responsibility. Another session having realised that there is just simply too much to share.

A night where everyone gets to be the selector. Whether it’s a forgotten gem, a fresh find, or something you’ve been wanting others to hear, pass it to the booth and let the music do the talking.

Minimum one drink.

A Conversation with Kingston & Rizki
Moderated by Jenn Chunes

For the next few weeks, Cryroom will be slowing things down.

Fewer parties, more conversations. A chance to explore the people behind the music we’ve been dancing to.

Kingston and Rizki are two selectors many of us know through the dancefloor, but rarely through their stories.

Joined by Jenn Chunes, recently returned from Singapore, the three will sit down for an open conversation on creative process, personal journeys, record collecting, and the music that continues to keep them digging.

As always, the floor is open too. Bring your questions and be part of the conversation.

Bring a record.

We’ll play it.

Simple as that.

A night where everyone gets to be the selector. Whether it’s a forgotten gem, a fresh find, or something you’ve been wanting others to hear, pass it to the booth and let the music do the talking.

Sketchy Things: Doodle
RM10 — materials contribution

A night to put the phone down and pick something up.

Sketchy Things is our way of bringing doodling and simple craft back into the physical world. At a time when everything leans digital, we slow it down. Paper, pen, hand, instinct.

*Communal sheets to build on together.

At the end of the night, everything gets scanned and shared
— but first, it lives in real time.

P.S. Spare stationery donation welcome.
We’ll use it for future sessions.
