Plasticity Theatre Troupe

Plasticity Theatre Troupe Plasticity Theatre Troupe (PTT) was formed in 2015 in Penang, by a group of Malaysian artists from various background . Plastics are non-biodegradable.

We support and advocate the idea of upcycling - reuse of resources. All materials that we used in the process of rehearsals are collected from what others have thrown away. In a world where resources are facing a serious problem of shortage, we should start from ourselves by extending the life of abandoned objects. Previous Productions:

2016
Plastic City [~40 mins]
It depicts issues of the overwh

elming amount of disposable plastic products in our world. But the humungous number of the usage of disposable plastic products is yet astonishing. Have you ever imagined that where would these used disposable plastic go?

2018
The Present [~40 mins]
A collaborative mentorship project with Homemade Puppet from Thailand. It tells a story about a little boy, who accidentally discovers a vintage box, and enters the fantasy world with his newly found friend, a fish. In that fantasy world, the boy went through a series of soul-stirring adventure and come to realise human greed has caused irreparable damage to the environment. The storyline focuses on human destructive development which not only harming our mother nature, but also other living creatures in the world. Current Production
Di Luar Bayangan (Out of the Shadow)
In association with SUARAM Penang and Eliminating Deaths and Abuse in Custody Together (EDICT). A phone call brings news of the loss of a father. A tragedy in custody... one of just too many such cases in Malaysia. Whether a crime was committed or not, does any person deserve to be treated inhumanly just because they are behind bars? Based on court proceedings and the testimonies of family members, lawyers, this shadow play is inspired by the true story of Chandran Perumal.

Thank you, , for having us at
Here’s a small wrap-up of our upcycled puppet-making workshop on 22–23 Nov 2025.

It was only a two-hour session across two days, yet we (Plasticity) received so much energy from everyone who joined us. We saw almost full, genuine engagement from the community—people of all ages, races, and nationalities.

Parents who are very supportive, stayed with their children, even waiting in the rain.
Kids returned on the second day with new friends because they wanted to make another puppet.
A son brought his elderly mum in her 70s–80s, and they enjoyed crafting together.
Groups of adults enjoyed making memories of their own childhood and countless moments

Despite the weather condition, everyone completed their puppets from scratch without a single complaint—only enthusiasm.

One of the moment that truly touched us:
When the participants reflecting their own made puppets into shadow, their expression watching their puppet “come alive”—reminded us why we do this.

And it wasn’t just the kids. Many adults were equally focused, rediscovering the joy of making things by hand, satisfied and happy in a simple way we sometimes forget.

We originally thought we were just there to run a merely simple workshop.
We didn’t expect it to give us this much energy and such a sincere reminder.

We hope this small happiness we experienced, and the energy we received, reaches you too. ❤️

Wondering why we’re offering two different seating options?

Our show is created with light and shadow, and of course upcycled material.
Often after each show, we conduct a back stage tour to reveal the magic behind it.

People are always surprised to see that all the sets and props are actually just everyday objects.

We wish to deliver messages, about the environment, about our performing methods, and about the creative process.

We hope to take this further, not only showcasing the back stage after the show, but also revealing it during the performance itself.

So, please have a seat.
