In May, Valve put the Steam Deck OLED price up by nearly half. Memory and storage costs, their words, and the machine itself did not change. A new 1TB on Shopee is close to RM4,000 right now.

The Ally X went the same way. A new one is close to RM4,000 and even used ones on Shopee start around RM3,600.

Mine is RM2,999.

Cheaper than every other Ally X on there, about RM1,900 under a new Steam Deck, and on the benchmarks it is the faster machine of the two. The whole comparison is in the pictures, just swipe.

Slide 7 is the honest other side. The Deck still wins on the screen and the trackpads, and one game in the same benchmark run actually ran smoother on it. I have handled and sold both, so this is not me talking down a machine I have never touched.

Angkol gets asked this every week, so here is the honest answer.

BUY IT IF
You play the PS5 enhanced games and you actually care about resolution and frame drops
during gameplay. That is the whole point of this machine. PSSR2 is genuinely great
technology for exactly those two things, and the standard PS5 does not support it.
Your screen is 4K and supports a high refresh rate. If it is not up to it, you are paying
for something you literally cannot see.
This is your first PS5 and budget is not tight. In that case the Pro is the better buy,
and you get 2TB of storage instead of the smaller drive on the standard one.

SKIP IT IF
You do not play the enhanced titles. Nothing to unlock, so nothing to gain.
Your TV is not 4K, or it is 4K but low refresh rate. Save the money, genuinely.
You already own a standard PS5. Upgrading is the part Angkol would think twice about,
because you pay full price again for a difference you only see in some games.

One more thing people find out late: there is no disc drive in the box. If you buy your
games on disc, that is another purchase on top of an already expensive machine.

Buying your first one with room in
the budget, take the Pro. Already got a standard PS5 and just curious, probably not.

Be honest with me. What is sitting in your library right now that you bought, fully
intended to play, and have not touched since?

We all have one. The big RPG you were so hyped for and bounced off forty minutes in.
The masterpiece everyone swore you had to play, opened exactly once. The sequel you
bought on day one because you loved the first one, and then work happened, and then a
year happened.

No judgement here at all. Half the people who come to me for a console already own
three games they have not finished, and honestly that is fine. Buying games and playing
games are two slightly different hobbies and most of us do both.

Steam Deck OLED, 2TB, gone to its new owner.

Thank you for the trust. Handing one of these over
is genuinely the best part of doing this.

Quick thing about that 2TB, because someone always asks. Valve does not make a 2TB
Steam Deck. It comes in 512GB or 1TB. This one is 2TB because I
opened it up and put the drive in myself.

That is the sort of work I mean when I say every unit gets sorted before it goes out.
Not a wipe down and a photo. Actually opening things up, replacing what needs
replacing, and upgrading where it makes sense.

And the OLED screen is the part you feel straight away. Colours pop, and the blacks are
properly black, which makes a real difference when you are playing in bed with the
lights off. Pair that with 2TB and you can stop doing the thing where you delete one
game to make room for another.

Enjoy it boss!

Cheap does not mean bad. Most of the time it just means old, and old has nothing to do
with whether a game is any good.

Five PS4 games Angkol would recommend for anybody, all under RM60:

Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate, RM50. The Ultimate version, so all the extra fighters and
both story expansions are already in there. Best value on this list if you have anyone
to play against.

Assassin's Creed Odyssey, RM50. Ancient Greece and an absolutely enormous map. You are
not finishing this one in a weekend, or a month. Really good value for the moniess!

The Last of Us Remastered, RM40. If you only take one thing off this list, take this. It has one of the most engaging gameplay and storytelling. Angkol played this one personally a few times already xDD

God of War, RM50. The 2018 one, the Norse one. Still looks superb and still hits
harder than most things released since.

Death Stranding, RM60. The odd one out and I am putting it here on purpose. People
either bounce off it in an hour or lose a hundred hours to it. Worth finding out which
one you are for RM60.

If you have got a PS4 sitting kumpul habuk that you have not switched on in months,
any one of these will get you back on it for cheapp!

Before you sell your console, do these three things. They cost you almost nothing and
they will get you more money for it.

1. Clean it properly.

Not a quick wipe. If you can open it up, blow the dust out of the fan and clear the
vents. If you cannot, then at minimum do the case, the ports and the controller grips,
properly, with the right stuff. A console that looks looked after tells a buyer it was
looked after, and people pay for that feeling more than they will ever admit to.

2. Find the box and the cables.

Original box, correct power cable, HDMI, controller cable. Every missing piece is a
reason for the buyer to talk you down, and the box in particular does more work than it
has any right to. Half an hour digging through your store room is the best paid half
hour on this whole list.

3. Factory reset it properly.

Sign out of your account, deactivate the console as your primary device, then reset it.
That is for your own safety, obviously. But it is also that a buyer who has to untangle
somebody else's leftover account is a buyer who is annoyed before he has played
anything, and annoyed buyers pay less.

Do those three and you will get noticeably more. None of it is a trick. It just removes
every excuse a buyer has to hand you less money.

If you are buying a used PS4 from anyone, angkol included, these are the parts that go
first. This is the order I actually see them fail, not a list off the internet.

1. Controller sticks. Drift is number one and it is not close. Every used PS4, PS5 and Switch I look
at, this is the first thing I check.

2. The fan. Usually not a real failure, just years of dust, and it screams. Normally
fixable. But if it is loud AND running hot, that is a different conversation.

3. Disc drive. Either it will not pull the disc in properly or it grinds. Test it with
an actual disc in your hand. Do not take anyone's word for this one.

4. HDMI port. Less common, but this is the expensive one. Wiggle the cable a little
while it is running and watch if the picture cuts out.

5. Hard drive. Slow loading, random freezing, crashes that make no sense. Cheap enough
to swap, but you want to know before you pay, not after.

None of this means do not buy used. It means know what you are buying and price it
accordingly. Every one of these is checkable in about five minutes if you know to look.

Save this for the next time you go see a unit.
