It is part of the University for Society initiative (U4S Northern Zone) under the Ministry of Education Malaysia. TUBA Mengkuang is monitored by UUM researchers led by Assoc. The research title is "Empowermen

t of Mengkuang Weavers' Community in Pulau Tuba", that runs from 1 January 2020 until 31 July 2021. The project is financially managed by the Research & Innovation Management Centre (RIMC), UUM (S/O Code: 14984). TUBA Mengkuang aims to increase and stabilise the income of the Mengkuang weavers' community in Pulau Tuba, Langkawi, Kedah, Malaysia. The goal is to develop an entrepreneurial mindset and skills among the community and the younger generation through the commercialisation of the products and through a sustainable practice. Ultimately, the project hopes to create more job opportunities for the community, especially the women.
