Rimbun Dahan is private property. We are not open to the public except during exhibitions and events which are publicised on our page and website. All other visits are by appointment only.

You are still welcome to drop in without registration on Sunday 25 October between 11am and 6pm, to meet the artists in their studios, visit the heritage houses, and explore the gardens at your leisure.

Next Sunday 25 October is Open Day at Rimbun Dahan!

Current resident artists Regina Reyes (Philippines) and Marco Ortiga (Philippines) will be sharing the results of their residencies with the public in their studios. You can also meet current resident poet Raul G Moldez (Philippines) who will give a reading of his ecopoetry and talk about his craft.

During your visit, you're welcome to explore our Rumah Uda Manap and Rumah Penang heritage houses, and if you bring a picnic you can enjoy it in the gardens.

All activities on Open Day from 11am to 6pm are free for drop-in, no registration required.

Rimbun Dahan director Bilqis Hijjas will lead a tour of the 14-acre native garden in the morning, from 9am to 11am. Registration required for the garden tour only.

This Sunday 4 October, Angela Hijjas will lead a tour of her 14-acre native garden at Rimbun Dahan.

Come marvel at the enormous forest trees overhead, the fungi in the leaf litter beneath your feet, and everything in between.

Entry is free but registration is required for the garden tour, which runs from 9am to 11am.

After the tour, you are welcome to drop by to visit the exhibition of recent paintings by Hijjas Kasturi in the Underground Gallery and explore the heritage houses, from 11am to 6pm — no registration required.

This Sunday, Australian interdisciplinary artist Zara Collins will open her studio to share works in progress from her month-long residency at Rimbun Dahan.

Working across porcelain and paper, Zara's practice explores memory, the trace and ways everyday objects and materials can hold personal and cultural histories. She holds an MFA from the National Art School and a BVA from Sydney College of the Arts, Sydney University.

During her residency, Zara has been responding to the collection of Malay traditional textiles on site, continuing her engagement with ideas of the passage of time, the material trace, and the ways textiles can act as a metaphor for the temporality of human existence.

Working with Korean Kozo paper and copper, Collins is experimenting with drawing, layering and tracing processes to translate and abstract forms encountered within Rimbun Dahan’s architecture and textile collection.

Visitors to Rimbun Dahan this weekend can also tour the exhibition Hijjas Kasturi at NINETY in the Underground Gallery, and explore the garden and heritage houses.

Ar. Hijjas Kasturi, our owner and founder, turns 90 years old this month! 🕺🏻🥂🎆🎂

As part of our celebrations, Rimbun Dahan will be open to the public with a solo exhibition of Hijjas' recent paintings in the Underground Gallery.

Open times: 11am to 6pm

During your visit, you are welcome to explore the 14-acre indigenous garden and visit the two heritage houses on site.

TIPS for VISITORS

* Food and water are not provided on site. You are welcome to enjoy your own picnic in the gardens; please take all your trash with you.
* Swimming and visiting pets are not allowed, thank you for your cooperation.
* Outdoor parking is available on the driveway, at your own risk.
* As Rimbun Dahan is our private family home, please be advised that we are not open to the public on other dates.

In dry weather, the Taman Sari is the best place to be at Rimbun Dahan -- it gets watered twice a day! The gingers are loving it. This beehive ginger (Zingiber spectabile) has produced over 20 inflorescences.
