Artists on Courage: Anoora Chapek

Some artists do not speak in the way the world expects.

But their work speaks with force.

We begin Artists on Courage with Anoora Chapek — a Temuan artist whose paintings rise from forest, river, memory, survival and joy.

Her courage is not loud.

It is elemental.

It is the courage to keep becoming.

To turn what has been carried in the body into colour, movement and form.

Anoora does not speak loudly.

But her paintings do.

A new Art + Being series asking artists what courage means to them — and what keeps them creating through doubt, comparison, fear and uncertainty.

Because it takes courage to say: I am an artist.

And in a world that can feel noisy, fractured and numb, artists remind us we are still alive.

They help us feel again.
They help us recognise ourselves.
They interrupt our sleepwalking.

A contemplative object, As Vast as a Mountain invites a slower kind of looking.

Shaped by time and erosion, it reflects an inner landscape — one in which nothing is forced, and what reveals itself may have been present all along. By slowing our gaze, we invite time itself to slow, and the work becomes a quiet doorway into that inner universe, that space in between.

Within MOTHER — an exploration, the piece gestures toward the vast, quiet terrain of care carried within.
