OPEN CALL for MALAYSIAN ARTISTS

Open Call Printmaking 2026 is an annual exhibition that gathering prints produced by printmakers and other visual artists. The exhibition aims to foster interest and appreciation of printmaking as a medium that supports artists’ ideas and expression.

SUBMIT
1. One artwork (free theme and size)
2. Artwork produced in 2025 and 2026
3. Artwork of any printmaking medium
(Intaglio – Etching, aquatint, lithograph,
drypoint, engraving, tetrapak, etc / Relief
Linocut, woodcut, mdfcut, collagraph,
silkscreen, stencil, etc)
4. The artwork is an edition. Monotype and
Digital print is not allowed.

Chetak 17 is pleased to present Meet the Artist: Keita Ando, an open studio showcasing the printmaking works produced during the Japanese artist’s two-week residency at Chetak 17 under The Bare Hand Programme, organised by Akal Di Hulu.

The three-day open studio invites the public to view Ando’s newly produced printmaking and engage directly with the artist through informal conversations and exchanges about his practice, creative process and experience be in Malaysia.

The three-day open studio invites the public to view Ando’s newly produced printmaking and engage directly with the artist through informal conversations and exchanges about his practice, creative process and experience be in Malaysia.

About Keita Ando

Keita Ando is a Japanese contemporary artist born in Kawasaki, Kanagawa, Japan, in 1992. He graduated from the Department of Fine Arts, Faculty of Arts, Kyushu Sangyo University. His artistic practice encompasses drawing, painting and printmaking, with recurring themes centred on life, death, impermanence and cycles of regeneration.

Ando’s artistic perspective has been shaped by his engagement with Buddhist thought in Japan, as well as religious and cultural perspectives encountered through his experiences beyond Japan. His works explore the transient nature of existence and the continuous cycles of transformation that connect life, loss and renewal.

Ando has exhibited extensively in Japan and internationally, including exhibitions and artist residencies in Indonesia and Malaysia. His accolades include recognition from the Onojo Madokapia Print Biennale, the Mitsubishi Corporation Art Gate Program, and the Fukuoka Wall Art Project Excellence Award.
