DRYPOINT | CHETAK 17 PRINTMAKING INTENSIVE CLASS 2026

Join our 2-day Drypoint Intensive Class at Chetak 17 and experience the beauty of traditional intaglio printmaking through a hands-on learning process.

Drypoint is loved for its expressive marks, rich textures, and soft velvety lines — making it a powerful technique for artists who enjoy drawing, line work, and experimental printmaking.

This session will be hosted by Haslin Ismail and Iwadh Mahadi, two practising artists whose works explore strong visual narratives, expressive mark-making, and print-based processes. Participants will have the opportunity to learn directly from their artistic experience and practical approach to drypoint.

Participants will learn:
• Basic drypoint printmaking process
• Plate preparation and engraving techniques
• Inking and wiping methods
• Paper preparation
• Printing using an etching press
• Editioning and final print presentation

Date: 27 & 28 June 2026
Day: Saturday & Sunday
Duration: 2-Day Class
Fee: RM150 per person

Chetak 17 is organizing a series of intensive printmaking classes throughout 2026, featuring various printmaking techniques from fundamental processes to artwork production.

This class series is open to anyone interested in learning, understanding, and exploring printmaking through hands-on practice with experienced instructors.

Open Call Printmaking 2026 is an annual exhibition that gathering prints produced by printmakers and other visual artists. The exhibition aims to foster interest and appreciation of printmaking as a medium that supports artists’ ideas and expression.


Exhibition: PRINTMAKING OPEN CALL 2026

Venue: CHETAK 17, Wangsa Melawati,
Kuala Lumpur.

SUBMIT
1. One artwork (free theme and size)
2. Artwork produced in 2025 and 2026
3. Artwork of any printmaking medium
(Intaglio – Etching, aquatint, lithograph,
drypoint, engraving, tetrapak, etc / Relief –
Linocut, woodcut, mdfcut, collagraph,
silkscreen, stencil, etc)
4. The artwork is an edition. Monotype and
Digital print is not allowed.

Sayembara Hidup menelusuri perjalanan manusia dalam ruang persaingan yang tidak pernah benar-benar selesai.
Lapisan hitam putih memperlihatkan kontras antara ambisi dan kerentanan, antara pencapaian dan kehilangan diri.
Struktur yang bertindih menjadi metafora tekanan, beban dan halangan yang membentuk identiti.
Karya ini mengajak refleksi tentang makna “menang” dalam perlumbaan yang sering tidak kita pilih.
Dalam sayembara kehidupan, persoalannya bukan siapa paling cepat, tetapi siapa masih setia pada nilai diri.

' raksasa ' dimana bentuk ombak yang akan bertukar mengikut keadaan alam samada ianya dapat menghancurkan sesuatu atau sebaliknya.

Karya ini merupakan refleksi perspektif terhadap wanita dan ibu. Bahagian bawah tubuh sarat dengan beban, keletihan, dan luka, namun tubuhnya tetap tegak menghadap ke hadapan. Lengan dan tangan yang besar melambangkan ketahanan serta kebijaksanaan dalam menghadapi tekanan. Figura di sebelah kanan adalah lelaki, yang sentiasa mencari keseimbangan. Karya ini bukan gambaran makhluk atau mitos, tetapi realiti yang dibina daripada pengalaman sebenar.
