The play The Lychees of Chang’an, the production embraces a minimalist stage design and highly physical storytelling. Actors run, tumble, and fall to convey the hardship of a low-ranking official tasked with an impossible mission: transporting fresh lychees from Lingnan to Chang’an – over 2,500 km – in just three days, for the birthday of Yang Guifei, the beloved consort of Emperor Xuanzong. Woven with sharp, absurd workplace humour, the play is at once hilarious and deeply affecting.
Since its premiere, the production has toured nationwide with over 100 performances and has won multiple honors, including recognition as one of the “Top Ten Most Influential Plays of 2025.”
话剧《长安的荔枝》以极简舞台与强烈的肢体表演呈现：演员用奔跑、翻滚、跌倒等动作，展现小吏千里运荔的艰辛，穿插职场荒诞笑料，笑中带泪。话剧版自首演以来，已在全国巡演超过百场，并荣获“2025年度十大影响力话剧”等多项大奖。

I recently caught the stage play The Lychees of Chang’an in Xi’an, at the invitation of Li Chao, President of Xi’an Theatre.
Both this stage production and the critically acclaimed 2025 box-office hit film are adapted from Ma Boyong’s novel, developed by different creative teams and premiering almost concurrently in May 2025.
To my surprise, the stage adaptation left a deeper impression on me than the film. I did not expect to be moved to tears several times—even as I found myself laughing throughout.

受西安话剧院院长李超邀请，我近日在西安观看了话剧《长安的荔枝》。
话剧版与电影版《长安的荔枝》均改编自马伯庸的同名小说，由不同创作团队打造，并于2025年5月前后几乎同期与观众见面；两者皆取得了口碑与票房双丰收的佳绩。
去年看电影版时，我只觉得它是一部轻松幽默的喜剧，印象并不算特别深刻。没想到这次观看话剧版，竟让我在笑声中数度潸然泪下，所带来的触动与震撼，远比电影更为深刻。

Sunway officially launched the Jeffrey Cheah Preforming Arts Centre (JCPAC) at the Sunway Square Mall. Datin Paduka Serena Cheah, Executive Deputy Chair of Sunway Group and Melissa Teoh, the Producing Artistic Director, welcomed the guests and shared their vision for the Centre. Dama Asia is restaging our 20the Anniversary revival of Butterfly Lovers - The Musical at JCPAC in November.

In Beijing, watched “Siegfried” last night — Wagner’s third Ring opera. I can’t believe my first time watching this opera was 40 years ago 😅: 1986 & 1987 at the Royal Opera House, London; 2009 in Bayreuth, Germany; 2013 at Royal Albert Hall, London; the fun 24‑Hour Ring in 2015 in Shanghai; and 2017 at the HK Cultural Centre.
昨晚在北京看了瓦格纳《指环》第三部《齐格弗里德》。难以置信首看是40年前😅1986年在伦敦皇家歌剧院，之后1987年同院、2009年德国拜罗伊特、2013年伦敦阿尔伯特音乐厅、2015年上海24小时指环及2017年香港文化中心。

Following the exciting start to auditions, we are happy to announce an extended audition call as casting for BUTTERFLY LOVERS continues. We are still meeting singers for various roles in the production. We would love to hear from performers who are interested in being part of this exciting project.

PERFORMERS REQUIRED
Male & female candidates aged 21-35

LEADS, PRINCIPAL ROLES & ENSEMBLE
We are particularly seeking singers and performers with solid vocal ability, reliable pitch, and control and who bring strong character and storytelling

REGISTRATION FOR AUDITION

- Submission of video recordings of two (2) contrasting songs: one up-tempo piece and one slower, more lyrical or sentimental selection
- Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend the in-person audition session
