Alena Murang (b.1989) keeps the Kelabit culture alive. Born and bred in Borneo, Alena’s practice aims to story-tell about the dying indigenous tribes of Sarawak through music, art, and dance. She hopes to instil positivity and awareness towards indigenous communities- particularly the Orang ulu, Kenyah, Kelabit and Penan tribes.⠀⠀
She has travelled the world playing and promoting the sape, a traditional lute instrument. Alena is one of the few female sape players practicing this dying craft. ⠀

Nor Mahnun Mohamed (b.1964) feels like a traveller all the time. Her painting practice is all about exploring the figure.
Her figurative paintings create a relationship between coldness and emotion. She states that ‘her figures are in their own world’ and exist separately from our reality. This separation of the viewer & figure causes emotional distance.
