UNESCO Jakarta, in partnership with Temasek Foundation, is launching Embracing Shared Heritage through Performing Arts (2025–2026), a regional initiative that celebrates Southeast Asia’s shared cultural heritage by empowering the performing arts sector and creating opportunities for artists to raise the visibility of their art forms through collaboration, co-creation, and cross-cultural exchange across participating countries.

As part of the Malaysian programme, The Back Room and The Instant Café Theatre Company present:

Exploring Embracing Performing Heritage
A 2-Day Workshop | 2–3 June 2026 | Kuala Lumpur

The line-up includes -
Sumit Mandal, Vila Somiah, Wong Yee Von, Norzizi Zulkifli, Joseph Gonzales, Pauline Fan, Pue Giok Hun, Noramin Farid, Kam Raslan, Gogularajaan Rajendran and Jo Kukathas.

Artistic Director Joseph Victor Gonzales's session will feature "Mahsuri" by Imran Syafiq and "Madu" by Nadhirah Razid performed by Wong Shan Tie and Nadirah Rahmat.

With that, Never Stand Still takes its final bow after three performances.

Thank you to everyone who came, watched, and supported us throughout this journey.

Thank you to our artistic team — Lighting Design by Tan Eng Heng, Set Design by Liew Chee Heai, and Stage Management by Hazra Ghazaly — for shaping the space and experience of the work.

To our interns from Taylor's University and Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris, we hope this experience becomes part of your growth and artistic journey.

Never Stand Still was a fully self-funded production — created without sponsorship support, sustained through our savings from corporate performances and gigs. It reflects our determination to continue building and developing dance in Malaysia, regardless of the challenges.

Thank you as well to all our crew members and volunteers who helped make this possible behind the scenes.

We hope this production has left an impact on you, whether small or significant. And we hope this is not the end, but another step forward toward creating more works and more spaces for dance in the future.

From Kangar, Perlis to international dance platforms, Zulkarnain Zuber continues to shape his choreographic voice through sharp physicality, quirky and micro-movements.

A Principal Dancer and Choreographer with ASK Dance Company, his works have travelled from Malaysia to Poland, India, and Japan — including receiving the Kinosaki Arts Award at Yokohama Dance Collection 2023 for Interchange.

Graduated from Faculty of Dance ASWARA, this production marks a significant milestone as the first mixed bill production for Zulkarnain Zuber.
