A glimpse into our clay sculpture workshop by yesterday, which was incredibly informative and well-structured.

9 hours without screen time. It’s refreshing to see our participants so deeply engrossed with their work on hand, trusting the process and gently coaxing life into a formless lump of clay as they went. Also huge shoutout to our model for being a living sculpture herself. We rotated the model every 5 minutes on a swivel stool so that participants can work on different sides simultaneously.

At the end of the workshop, Mr Tang demonstrated on how to properly hollow out and vent the sculptures (the most crucial part of the workshop!!) so that they dry evenly and thus reducing the chance of cracking…..or possibly exploding in the kiln due to trapped air or moisture 🤯

Throughout the workshop, there was a wonderful atmosphere of collaboration and encouragement, with participants exchanging tips and celebrating each other’s progress. We also found out who the perfectionists are 😏

Quick recap of our recent photography workshop collaboration with Sasana International School for their craft week:

It was a 3 day workshop. We did a crash course on the first day to familiarise students with their cameras and to grasp key concepts like ISO/ shutter speed/ aperture, as well as experimented with different filters to see how they could transform their photographs. We also got to try out multiple exposure photography (had to take turns as not everyone’s camera had this setting).

Second day– we applied the knowledge to practical use at the vibrant and bustling Petaling Street, where students learned to adapt their camera settings to different lighting conditions. Due to the place being Mr Khong’s (instructor) home turf, we also had the privilege to capture scenes that we usually do not have access to. One of the highlights of the day was the interaction with graffiti artist who graciously pulled a flame stunt for us. We also each got a signed Pokémon card as souvenir! We were happy to witness students gradually getting comfortable to approach strangers for permission to photograph.

The final day was review and selection of photographs for the students’ exhibition at the end of the craft week. We also discussed techniques for presenting their works effectively for viewing.

Overall, the workshop was a resounding success, and it was incredibly rewarding to share our passion and knowledge with such enthusiastic young minds. Thank you again to Sasana International School for the opportunity to collaborate. Looking forward to future projects!
