Can you use acrylic paint directly on canvas without gesso?? 🎨🤔
Yes… BUT there’s a catch! 👀
You can paint acrylic directly onto raw canvas, and some artists love the natural, matte and stained effect. But raw canvas is highly absorbent, so the paint can sink into the fibres, making colours look dull and less vibrant. Over time, it may also affect the durability of your painting.
✨ Want brighter colours, better paint adhesion and a more protected canvas? Gesso first!
So, can you use acrylic directly on canvas? YES.
But if you want the best results, GESSO FIRST! 💯🎨
