Day 6 - Pattachitra painting “colours made of minerals, Shells and planta”

The paintings are characterized by intricate details, mythological narratives, and a vibrant color palette. Pattachitra art primarily depicts stories from Hindu mythology, especially tales of Lord Jagannath, Krishna, and other deities. The colors used are natural, often derived from minerals, shells, and plants.

The process involves preparing a cloth by coating it with a mixture of chalk and gum, creating a leathery texture ideal for painting. Artists use fine brushes and natural pigments, ensuring that the artworks are long-lasting.

Day 5- Tanjore painting began in the 16th century in Thanjavur, India. These artworks are colorful and feature gods and goddesses, decorated with 22-carat original gold foils and authentic Jaipur gemstones. They are made on water-resistant plywood, layered with cloth, chalk powder, and Arabic gum. The detailed painting process, along with the use of high-quality materials like gold and gemstones, makes them expensive.

Day 4- Lippan Art

Lippan art, originating from the Kutch region of Gujarat, is an ancient craft where mud and mirror work was used to decorate village homes. Communities like the Rabari and Mutwa created intricate patterns using clay, mud, and mirrors, inspired by nature.

The mirrors reflected sunlight, brightening the earthy designs. Traditionally part of village life, Lippan art has evolved into a popular form of modern décor, with contemporary adaptations using new materials to preserve the craft.
