A throwback to our KLWKND 2021 programmes: Art of Film
Presenting a commissioned video essay by acclaimed filmmaker Amir Muhammad and two selected short films by the award-winning R&D Studio directed by Irwan Junaidy, Art of Film screenings explored the nuances, evolution and potential of filmmaking in Malaysia. Amir's video essay, titled Tomorrow, Tomorrow, Tomorrow and Tomorrow, was put together using footage from legendary film icon Jins Shamsuddin's 4 "esok" movies to delve into themes of urbanization, race relations, modernization and governance in urban KL. The programme also screened internationally-acclaimed short animation films Batik Girl and The Dalang's Tale directed by Irwan Junaidi. Both directors were present throughout the screenings for Q&A and exploratory sessions with booked-out audiences.
Commissioned by Cultural Economy Development Agency (CENDANA) as part of Art in the City programme along with other partners and curated by Joe Sidek Productions, KLWKND was a weekend of dance, music, opera, fashion, architecture, food, visual arts, design, creative products, literature and more that happened in downtown KL between 25 - 28 November 2021.
