Meet the musicians! 🎹 (Ver. SYNC 9)
Introducing CELESTINE YOONG | piano
Born in 2001, Celestine Yoong Qian Yi began piano at three in Malaysia and later studied under Ng Chong Lim. She has since worked with esteemed musicians including Angela Hewitt, Natalia Trull, Eldar Nebolsin, Lera Auerbach, Chun Chieh Yen, John Perry and others. A multiple award winning pianist, her prizes include the ASEAN International Chopin Gold Prize, First Prize at the Ohrid Pearls International Competition and the Steinway Malaysia Youth Piano Competition, along with further success across Asia and Europe.
Celestine has performed extensively throughout Austria, Italy, Turkey, Russia, Greece, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore and more, including appearances with the Sofia Philharmonic, Taipei Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and the National Symphony Orchestra of Malaysia. She has also featured with the Malaysia Philharmonic Chamber Series, Kuala Lumpur City Opera, Evmelia Festival in Greece and the Moscow Meets Friends Festival.
In 2018 she entered the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna under Prof. Christopher Hinterhuber, performing regularly in venues including the Stiftung Mozarteum and Vienna Rathaus with musicians of the Vienna Philharmonic. She completed her Bachelor’s in 2022 and her Master’s in 2024 with full distinctions and a Special Appreciation Award. Celestine is now an adjunct lecturer at Sunway University while actively performing as a soloist, chamber musician and collaborative pianist.
