“在我最困难的时候,民主行动党给了我很多帮助。现在,轮到我去帮助有需要的人了。”
Those were Madam Chew’s words when I saw her volunteering at Agape Home, giving free haircuts to the children .
Madam Chew has been part of the Taman Tun Sardon community for more than 40 years. Her mother started the salon in 1981, she has grown up in it.
It’s not a fancy salon with modern decor or stylish interiors. It’s an old neighbourhood salon where generations of residents have had their hair cut and grown up together.
In 2024, she lost her mother.
While she was still grieving, she faced another challenge. The salon licence was still under her late mother’s name, and she wasn’t sure if she could continue operating the business.
She wrote me a letter asking for help.
I remember visiting her salon, listening to her concerns, and helping her work through the process with relevant agencies .
Thankfully, everything was eventually sorted out, and she was able to continue running the salon that had been part of the community for decades.
Every now and then, Madam Chew would drop by our service centre with some homemade food or little treats. 🫶🏻
It reminded me that kindness has a way of coming full circle.
We are blessed to have so many residents who are willing to step forward, support one another, and give back to the community.
And I hope that spirit will always remain a part of Seri Delima.
