Selamat Ari Gawai, Gayu Guru Gerai Nyamai to all our Sarawakian friends. A beautiful wish for long life, wisdom, strength, and peace in the Iban language.

The remote Nanga Mengkak Engkari longhouse surrounded by luscious hills sits at the confluence of the Engkari river that feeds into the Batang Ai dam. Several years ago, we had a memorable Gawai celebration at the Nanga Mengkak Engkari longhouse in Batang Ai. Besides savouring tuak, the homemade rice w**e, we witnessed a miring ceremony and generally merriment with the residents.

Looking forward to more trips to discover more of Sarawak.
