This Motherโ€™s Day, join Red Hong Yi for an afternoon of reflection, gently holding the in-between moments of early motherhood.

In conversation with Ling Yah () from So This Is My Why (), Red Hong Yi () opens up her journey into motherhood, its shifts, repetitions, and the quiet, often unseen labour that shapes her days. The session will be followed by a book signing of ๐˜๐˜ฐ๐˜ธ ๐˜ต๐˜ฐ ๐˜—๐˜ข๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜ต ๐˜ž๐˜ช๐˜ต๐˜ฉ๐˜ฐ๐˜ถ๐˜ต ๐˜ข ๐˜‰๐˜ณ๐˜ถ๐˜ด๐˜ฉ: ๐˜›๐˜ฉ๐˜ฆ ๐˜ˆ๐˜ณ๐˜ต ๐˜ฐ๐˜ง ๐˜™๐˜ฆ๐˜ฅ ๐˜๐˜ฐ๐˜ฏ๐˜จ ๐˜ ๐˜ช, alongside the launch of her calendar book ๐˜๐˜ด ๐˜›๐˜ฉ๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ ๐˜ˆ ๐˜ž๐˜ฐ๐˜ณ๐˜ฅ ๐˜๐˜ฐ๐˜ณ ๐˜๐˜ฆ๐˜ฆ๐˜ญ๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜จ ๐˜Œ๐˜น๐˜ฉ๐˜ข๐˜ถ๐˜ด๐˜ต๐˜ฆ๐˜ฅ ๐˜‰๐˜ถ๐˜ต ๐˜๐˜ช๐˜ญ๐˜ญ๐˜ฆ๐˜ฅ ๐˜ž๐˜ช๐˜ต๐˜ฉ ๐˜“๐˜ฐ๐˜ท๐˜ฆ?, which captures the first 30 days with her newborn.

Cultprint is proud to present โ€˜๐—œโ€™๐—บ ๐—ฎ ๐— ๐˜‚๐—บ?!โ€™, an upcoming solo exhibition by artist Red Hong Yi ().

๐—œโ€™๐—บ ๐—ฎ ๐— ๐˜‚๐—บ?! by Red Hong Yi explores the visceral reality of early motherhood, the quiet labor and the shifting self that exist beneath the familiar refrain.

The exhibition chronicles a personal entry into the blur of those first 30 days, a space where time stops behaving like time and days fold into a rhythm of feeding, holding, and waking. Through thirty embroidered works and installations of muslin, Red Hong Yi captures the material reality of care. It is a trace of a love that doesnโ€™t always announce itself, found in the small gaps where you are still yourself, and not yourself anymore.

Red Hong Yi () is a contemporary Malaysian artist widely recognised for her practice composing everyday, often overlooked materials into intricate, large-scale installations. Through the labor-intensive processes of accumulation and aggregation, she reimagines the mundane, amalgamating the domestic and the disposable into visually arresting compositions that occupy the space between sculpture and narrative image-making.

By bridging traditional craftsmanship with digital tools, Hong Yi probes how the act of repetition can generate rhythm and shared human experience. Her works often engage sensibilities of home, memory, and belonging, while more recently addressing the developing journey of motherhood.

What you donโ€™t see behind an exhibition. From building to installation, down to the finer details, it takes many hands to bring Subculture to life. Shoutout to laurin_guedel for the woodwork on the Mobile Art Gallery and to everyone on the team who made this happen.

โ€˜โ€™Adding sausage has been a common staple for many students during my college era. We tended to add sausage to almost every meal we ordered, it was affordably cheap, and gave us that sense of eating meat in a way that felt oddly fulfilling.

And I thought, what if I added sausage to ikan bakar as well, since a skateboard kind of looks like a sausage anyway? Hence, ikan bakar can now skate on a sausage board while smoking.

None of this really makes sense, like why add sausage when an egg would suffice for protein? I donโ€™t know. Why would the chicken want to cross the road?โ€™โ€™ - bibichun

Creating rooms, closets, and cabinets through the spatial qualities of the canvas as a found object, Jolene Liam situates a familiar material from the art world within an expanded context. In doing so, she explores how recognisable spaces and domestic objects can be re-seen and re-interpreted, and how our relationships with them shift over time.
Floor plans are shaped through the objects that inhabit each space, shifting emphasis away from architectural structure. This perspective reveals how accumulated things construct meaning, offering a reading of space that reflects not just where we live, but what we choose to live with, and what those choices say about us.

โ€œOur evolution as a species has been intermittently marked by the trail of barbarism we leave behind at every step,โ€ explains , reflecting on the notion of progress as dictated by society. He suggests that tourists constitute the most effective army in history, one to which, at some point, all of us have belonged. In doing so, we become complicit in the slow erosion of the very places we seek to experience, gradually reducing cities to homogenised landscapes of global consumption, where local identity diminishes and, at times, even native residents are displaced.

Humour and irony are central to Cordalโ€™s practice. Through his work, he raises critical questions around gentrification and the consequences of overtourism, often embodied in his recurring sculpted figure: a middle-aged, bald, uniformed man in a grey suit. This character first emerged in his ongoing nomadic project, ๐˜Š๐˜ฆ๐˜ฎ๐˜ฆ๐˜ฏ๐˜ต ๐˜Œ๐˜ค๐˜ญ๐˜ช๐˜ฑ๐˜ด๐˜ฆ๐˜ด (), where Cordal stages scenes of quiet dislocation and systemic collapse. These miniature interventions are then documented through photography, preserving fleeting yet poignant reflections on the fragility of the contemporary world.
