The credit of bringing Bharathanatyam to its present form goes to the famous Tanjore Quartet comprising Chinnayya, Ponniah, Sivanandam and Vadivelu . Indra Manikam of the Tanjai Kamalaa Indira Bharathanatya Vidhyalayaa who guided us through our dance journey from a young age and introduced “Kalaimamani” , “Thalai Kol Asan” Guru B. Herambanathan of the Tan

javur Bavu Pillai Bharathanatya Vidhyalayaa who inherits the said tradition. We feel privileged and honored to be disciples of Guru B.Herambanathan and wish to express our sincere appreciation to him for the constant encouragements, guidance and training which he has provided us. Since the inception of this dance school in 1998, it has been a platform for many young talented dancers to explore, pursue and harness their artistic faculty. The main objective of this school is to promote the ancient rich heritage of Indian Art (specifically Bharathanatyam) and culture; thus ensuring its survival in a pure form and uphold the philosophy behind the dance, which is to search the human soul and unite with the Supreme Being.

SSDB Arts and Academy was honored to part of TKI diamond jubilee Gala Night, celebrating a legacy of 60 years last night at the Galaxy Banquet Hall, Sentul. It was a joyous celebration of “ Nattuva Thilagam” Smt Indira Manikam and her stellar legacy, filled with an array of live performances, particularly excerpts from her famous dance dramas. The night also became an opportunity to walk down memory lane and to reconnect with friends and peers from the Bharatanatyam fraternity in Malaysia.

Guru Srimathi Sri Devi Peethamparam was honored with the *Indira Natya Parampara Acharya* Award, recognizing her contributions in the field of Bharatanatyam, receiving the title from Smt Indira Manikam (her first guru) and Datuk B Sahadevan, Managing Director of National Land Finance Co-Operative Society Ltd (NLFCS).

May this tradition continue to thrive and inspire generations to come!

A refined presentation by four accomplished dancers of SSDB, embodying the strength, discipline, and evolving beauty of Bharatanatyam.

Staged at Kalamandapam, Brickfields on 9th May 2026, this performance reflected a harmonious blend of tradition and artistry, symbolising growth rooted in strong foundational training.

Each dancer, like a branch of the Vriksha Tree, contributed to a collective expression of grace, precision, and devotion to the classical form.

Our sincere appreciation to all parents for their unwavering support and excellent coordination throughout the event. We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to the musicians for their soulful and precise renditions, which elevated the performance, and to the senior students of SSDB for their dedicated efforts in ensuring the smooth and successful coordination of the programme.

We warmly invite you to “Nrithya Vriksham”, the sacred Salangai Pooja ceremony, where six young and budding artistes from SSDB Arts & Cultural Academy will adorn their dance bells for the very first time, marking a significant milestone in their Bharatanatyam journey.

Following this auspicious ceremony, the dancers will present a traditional Margam with live music.
