One of the galleries in Merdeka Textile Museum contains a silat artwork image composed by artist Ahmad Zakii Anwar. The Sacred and Spiritual themed gallery is about the ways in which the Malay World use textiles to express sacredness and spirituality. In this pod, it is about how the old Malay manuscript, Hikayat Hang Tuah describes a fighting scene whereby Hang J***t keeps himself from bleeding with a gold threaded cloth. The Hikayat Hang Tuah manuscript is a rare and old original copy that is loaned to the Museum from the Royal Professor Ungku Aziz Trust.

It is with great sadness we convey our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Valentine Willie. Valentine was one of Cult’s strong supporters. A legendary curator, founder of Valentine Willie Fine Art, influential art collector and art advisor, a contemporary art and South East Asian art advocate and patron, Valentine was a trailblazer and indeed, ahead of his time. He opened up our minds, eyes as well as the market for art. He has left a huge vacuum in the art world, and in our hearts. He was deservedly awarded as a cultural icon by his beloved state of Sabah and the recent launch of VWFA archives at Ilham Gallery protects and continues his 30 year legacy in South East Asian contemporary art. Cult Gallery has made the move to Bangsar. We are now more compact in space but still charming and full of character:). The house is in a small older neighbourhood of Bangsar, and used to be an architect’s home and office. We are currently operating as a a place for creative brainstorming and team meetings for our upcoming Museum project, however we have started receiving artists and collectors already, who could not wait for the gallery warmimg. We will update you soon on Cult plans 2026, and our reveal on the Museum project we have been furiously working on very very soon. We miss our shows and I am sure you do too! Before long, the Cult community shall be together again. 🙏🙏🙏🤲🤲🤲🤓🤓🤓💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻🏇🏼🏇🏼🏇🏼🥳🥳🥳💋

Our deepest condolences on the passing of Buden (Samsudin Wahab), an extraordinary artist. Shown here at Cult Gallery’s Go Block art collective show , our experience with him was that Buden was not just a highly original and talented artist, but a patient and kind teacher, an imaginative and resourceful creative, a warm hearted person with a wonderful sense of humour. He shall be missed. Al-Fatihah.
