Hips do not lie. They bury and become a huge storehouse of emotional tension. Releasing that tension can open up unhealed wounds. It’s not uncommon to feel a rush of emotion in hip opening poses. This is healthy as you free yourself from a lifetime of burying your feelings. Many yoga students have worked through deep issues in their tissues. Shall we open our hips?

Savasana (pronounced shah-VAH-suh-nuh) is a Sanskrit word.

It means “corpse pose.”

Not in a morbid way — in a symbolic one.

It refers to the act of:
letting the body become completely still,
letting the ego loosen its grip,
and allowing the nervous system to enter deep rest.

In yoga philosophy, a “corpse” is not something dead —
it is something no longer resisting.

Savasana is where:
• effort stops
• identity softens
• control is surrendered

It’s the posture of trust.

You’re telling your body:
“I am safe enough to stop holding myself together.”

That’s why it feels so profound.

This is not a mistake. This is the moment few are willing to stay for.

Meditation is not boring!

This is what is happening.

Most people live slightly stressed even when nothing is wrong.

Meditation gently resets your default level of tension.
-fewer looping thoughts
-less judgement
-more relaxed presence

Meditation recalibrates your nervous system.
-more space between trigger and response
-improves decision-making and patience
-fewer knee-jerk reactions

Meditation allows you to tune in and feel deep inside your body.
-unlocks and releases old patterns of fear and trauma

-more clarity and healing

Today is Winter Solstice, the longest night of the year.
We often think the opposite of darkness is light. But darkness is simply “what has not been yet illuminated.” The real opposite of darkness is “denial and avoidance”- the refusal to stay with what is here and now. Nothing has to be fixed or bypassed.
Denial and avoidance live in the mind and urge us to escape.
Darkness lives in the body and asks us to stay and feel. Darkness is not dangerous. Denial and avoidance are.
Because what we deny and avoid we cannot heal.
Darkness is the fertile soil, the womb where prana and light are born. Before a star shines, it remains unseen and wrapped in darkness. Darkness holds potential. Avoidance and denial block it.
Darkness is presence without visibility. It is simply what we are willing to be with…healing begins the moment we stop leaving ourselves.

The Buddha Effect is the idea that the way you see someone influences who they become.

If you look at someone with patience, trust, and kindness, they “grow into” that version of themselves. When people feel seen as good, they tend to act better.
When they feel judged or doubted, they shrink or resist.

You don’t change them with force.
You change them with how you see them.
A child asked the teacher,
“Why do you smile at everyone, even when they make mistakes?”

The teacher said,
“Because when I see the good in them,
they remember it too.”

The child asked,
“What if they forget again?”

The teacher smiled.
“Then I keep seeing it,
until they do.”
